This weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, the USCSS Maginot, a Weyland Yutani research vessel, dramatically crashed onto the large lawn beside Hall H. Attendees expressed their concerns, hoping there weren’t any hazardous materials aboard, particularly as containers spilled across the area.
This captivating scene serves as both a teaser for FX’s new series, Alien: Earth, debuting on August 12, and sets the ominous tone for the show itself. Focusing on a downed spacecraft filled with horrors, including the iconic xenomorph—everyone’s favorite deadly alien with corrosive blood—the show promises intense thrills. Although the Comic-Con activation prominently featured the xenomorph, hints of other, yet-to-be-revealed creatures were also present.
During the convention, io9 had the privilege to explore the Alien: Earth activation, only experiencing half of what it offered. By night, this bright, inviting space transforms into a more chilling and dimly lit environment, enhancing the horror for those brave enough to return.
1. A Stunning Activation Experience
Even in daylight, the meticulous attention to detail of this activation is formidable. As you make your entrance through what resembles a military installation around the crashed ship, you encounter scattered containers housing those classic Alien eggs alongside some intriguing new yellow eggs. The journey continues into the MUTHUR computer room, directly reminiscent of the original film, leading you down two hallways that exhibit signs of chaos and destruction. The grand finale is a massive research facility, providing a sobering glimpse into the many species collected by the ship, culminating with an encounter with the menacing xenomorph itself. Thankfully, io9 made it out unscathed. Check out our video showcasing this incredible moment!
