Discover We Harvest Shadows: Trailer, Platforms, Demo & More

In the pre-show for Gamescom Opening Night Live, a trailer for an ‘anti-cozy’ horror farming sim was dropped, coming from solo developer David Wehle, called ‘We Harvest Shadows’.

Inspired by “slow-burn P.T.-style psychological horror games and Edith Finch-style personal first-person titles”, this title really seems to want to put Animal Crossing in its place, by giving you a lever action rifle and a lamb to sacrifice.

We’ve got the trailer here for you to check out, and see all that… baby head in closet action for yourself.

So what platforms will We Harvest Shadows be releasing on? As of right now, only Steam is confirmed, but this may change on the approach to release.

However, in another shock for most reveals, We Harvest Shadows dropped its demo alongside its reveal, meaning you can get stuck in and get a taste for the experience for yourself right now.

We even get a few details about the game from the Steam page, like how it’s set in the Appalachian mountains, notorious for being not super haunted at all, and how you’ll be able to upgrade and maintain your farmstead, buy new tools and vehicles, and even buy player upgrades. This is a narrative and building focused title, though, so survival elements are lighter than you’d find in most survival games. You even get a lovely little daily to-do list, which notably does not include ‘return to civilization’, so that’s a shame for someone with as weak a constitution as me.

You’ll be playing as ‘Garrett’, who has decided to never see another person again, because he thinks the world is ‘better without him’. Sounds like a really cheery little jaunt, no?
