Exciting news for Marvel Rivals fans! The latest season has launched, bringing new heroes like Phoenix and Blade, along with an intriguing Klyntar map. But more than just new content, there’s a significant overhaul in the game’s mission structure that you won’t want to miss.
In this season, the daily missions have been replaced with weekly challenges, offering players a chance to earn greater rewards. You can complete six missions each week, raking in a total of 1,080 Chrono Tokens to help unlock that coveted battle pass.
The compelling change doesn’t end there. New missions are designed to push players to experiment with different roles. For example, during the first week, you’ll be tasked to finish seven matches as a Strategist hero. This is perfect for players who may usually shy away from healing roles.
But will this really shift the gameplay dynamics? While I doubt it will make a monumental difference, there are plenty of alternative missions available to level up your battle pass while still offering diverse options. With ten missions available each week, players can easily sidestep uncomfortable roles if they prefer.
However, the imbalance in hero roles remains glaring. With ten tanks, nine healers, and a staggering 21 DPS heroes—thanks to Blade’s addition—the absence of a role queue or a lock leads to noticeable discrepancies in gameplay. Too often, three players lock in as Duelists, leaving others to juggle healing and tank duties, leading to one solitary tank in most lobbies.
Honestly, I often find myself end up playing the solo tank, which can feel overwhelming, especially since the Vanguard role is less favored currently. This imbalance is compounded by competitive pairings like Wolverine teaming with Phoenix, delivering AoE percentage damage and lifesteal, which can feel a bit harsh.
The overall game balance is an issue, but I personally choose to avoid Competitive play due to the negative affect it has on my overall enjoyment. Nevertheless, I truly wish NetEase would take further steps to level the field a bit.
It’s surprising that this season features two new Duelists when this role is already heavily represented. After this season, it would make more sense to see dedicated seasons for Vanguards or Strategists to better distribute the gameplay experience.
For now, I’m logging in primarily to boost my battle pass, enduring frustrating losses due to players reluctant to switch roles or try something new.
