TEKKEN 8 made a significant impact this past weekend at Evo, showcasing the first gameplay trailer featuring Armor King, along with a brand-new trailer filled with exciting content, just under two years post-release.
The team behind TEKKEN took some time to chat with Moyens I/O at Evo 2025. Our discussion included Kohei Ikeda (Nakatsu), Chief Producer and Game Director of TEKKEN 8, Katsuhiro Harada, Producer and Executive Game Director, and Michael Murray, game designer and translator for our interview.
As I engaged with the team, a pressing question came to mind: could we possibly see a Tekken Tag Tournament 3 in the future? Would the team consider it as the next step after TEKKEN 8?
Harada shared his thoughts on the prospect of a Tag sequel, noting the current market’s saturation with tag fighters. “Creating a new Tag game is challenging. I believe we should integrate it as a mode in TEKKEN 9 or 8 instead,” he stated.
Curious for more details, I asked if integrating a tag feature into the mainline games was a possibility instead of developing Tekken Tag Tournament 3 as a standalone title. Murray relayed Harada’s response, highlighting the current popularity of tag fighters. “If we start creating Tekken Tag Tournament 3 now, by the time it launches, tag games might not be trendy any longer,” he explained.
“If it were to happen, it’s likely quite far off. Perhaps the next generation will have to make that decision,” he added, leaving us pondering the future of the franchise.
As our conversation wrapped up, I couldn’t resist asking Harada about the long-anticipated TEKKEN X Street Fighter. To my surprise, he offered some insights.
“It’s tough to predict if that game will manifest, as it largely depends on fan interest. However, I’d love to share what we’ve already developed. We were around 30 percent into development, so let’s keep our hopes up!”

What is the current status of TEKKEN X Street Fighter?
Harada mentioned it is about 30 percent into development, but its future depends on community interest.
Will we see Tekken Tag Tournament 3 anytime soon?
Harada indicated it might not happen for a while, suggesting it’s more feasible as a mode within future mainline releases.
