The eagerly awaited omnimovement system from Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is set to make a return in Black Ops 7 later this year, but fans can expect some intriguing updates.
During an insightful press briefing last week, Treyarch and Activision unveiled exciting changes for omnimovement in BO7. A new Wall Jump ability will be introduced, allowing players to kick off a wall while running, creating opportunities for advanced movement techniques. This marks a shift from the movement dynamics in Black Ops 4 and Black Ops 3, as the game will not be incorporating jetpacks.
One notable change is the removal of the Tactical Sprint mechanic, which has allowed players to sprint rapidly while simultaneously aiming for years. This base movement alteration will affect how players approach fast-paced engagements.
The new omnimovement system offers additional perks, such as moving while mounted on cover and executing a “Combat Roll” to reduce fall damage from greater heights, especially in game modes beyond the traditional six-versus-six, like the new 20-versus-20 Skirmish mode and presumably Warzone.
However, some drawbacks have also been introduced. Players will no longer have the ability to aim down sight while executing slides, dives, or wall jumps. Instead, these techniques will now require dedicated Perks. Several new Perks are being introduced, focusing on enhancing movement, including one that reactivates Tactical Sprint, Agility (which boosts movement speed and recovery time), and Gung Ho (allowing players to fire while sprinting). Additional Perks like Networked (which shares buffs with teammates) and Looper (which loops Scorestreaks) have also been revealed.
Furthermore, players can enhance their omnimovement abilities through a new loadout item called Overclocks. Similar to Pro Perks from earlier Call of Duty titles, Overclocks can elevate various equipment types. Each lethal, tactical, Field Upgrade, and Scorestreak can be upgraded with a buff to improve its performance.
A beta test for BO7 is scheduled for later this year, allowing players to experience these new mechanics alongside a preview of the game’s 30 new weapons and 18 maps available at launch.
