How Do Pokemon GO Raids Work?

Think of Pokemon GO raids as notable boss battles where you team up with other trainers to take down super-powered Pokemon. When a raid begins, you’ll see a large egg appear on top of a gym. After the egg hatches, the raid boss Pokemon appears, and the fun begins.

To join a raid, you’ll need a Raid Pass. You can get one free pass daily by spinning a gym photo disc or buying premium raid passes from the shop. If you can’t make it to the gym in person, you can use a remote raid pass to join from anywhere, though you’ll deal a bit less damage when raiding remotely.

Here are some quick tips for new trainers or those getting back into raiding: Check the weather before raiding, as a weather boost can make a big difference. For 5-star and Mega raids, you’ll usually want 4-6 Pokemon GO trainers unless you have high-level counters. Shadow raids are tough. Bring your strongest Pokemon and try to raid with at least 4-5 other trainers.

Remember to save your remote raid passes for the Pokemon you want. While remote raiding is convenient, you’ll deal less damage than raiding in person.
