2025 will mark 12 years since the release of the last major GTA title, and we are close to GTA 6’s official release window. Thanks to the trailer, recent announcements, and speculations, we can get a fair estimate of the potential GTA 6 release date. Even though there is no way to be sure, we can try our best to answer the ever-brewing question of when GTA 6 is coming out. And it might be closer than you are expecting. Let’s find out how!
When Does GTA 6 Come Out (Updated April 2025)
At the moment, there is no official release date for GTA 6. However, the official GTA 6 trailer released in 2023 shared a frame saying, “Coming 2025.” Following that, Take-Two revealed that GTA 6 is releasing in Fall 2025. Now that we have a window, we can speculate about the release date. Use the table below to understand how we reached the conclusion, or simply skip to the potential release date.
Rockstar Games Release Timeline
To get a realistic idea of GTA 6’s release date, let’s go over the release dates of other major gaming titles by Rockstar Games.
Title | Release Date |
---|---|
Grand Theft Auto III | October 22, 2001 |
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City | October 29, 2002 |
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas | October 26, 2004 |
Grand Theft Auto IV | April 29, 2008 |
GTA IV PC | December 2, 2008 |
Grand Theft Auto V | September 17, 2013 |
GTA V PC | November 18, 2014 |
Red Dead Redemption 2 | October 26, 2018 |
RDR 2 PC | November 5, 2019 |
GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition | November 11, 2021 |
As you might have noticed, Rockstar Games releases all its major games in the fall months of each year. The only exception is GTA 4, which was released in April 2008. Leaving that aside, we have four titles in the last two weeks of October and three in November. Keeping that in mind, we expect to witness the release of GTA 6 in the final months of 2025.
GTA Games in Order (Story and Release Date)
Take-Two is already planning to release Borderlands 4 and Mafia: The Old Country in 2025. With Mafia releasing in the summer and Borderlands 4 releasing in September, we can narrow down the GTA 6 release date. As the other Take-Two titles are coming out early, it seems that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be kept for the end of the year.
While some suggest that a GTA 6 trailer 2 will be around the corner to confirm the release date, there is no sound from Rockstar’s end. If we go by the Rockstar Games template, October or November is the month when the game will be released.
GTA 6 Might Release on Tuesday
Since the release of GTA Vice City, every GTA title has been released on a Tuesday. There is no reason to break the pattern with GTA 6 as well. Moreover, we all know that the game is supposedly based on Vice City. One of the most important Tuesdays of 2025 is the 23rd anniversary of GTA Vice City. Or, almost a Tuesday as October 29 is a Wednesday. But again, there is no way to know if that event can lead to a specific release date or just an unrelated announcement.
GTA 6 Release Could Be Delayed
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged in an interview that the possibility of a release date slippage always exists. Talking to IGN, he said, “We know that Rockstar seeks perfection. I never claim success before it occurs.” However, the parent company behind the game has always affirmed the Fall 2025 release window so far. So, our fingers are crossed, but if things go haywire, GTA 6 might get delayed to early 2026.
Speculated GTA 6 Release Date
With that, you now know everything about the GTA 6 release date. All the announcements and our speculations can be accurate or slightly off from the actual release date, which is yet to be announced by Rockstar Games.
However, you should bookmark this page to find out the official release date of Grand Theft Auto as soon as it gets announced. If GTA 6 is delayed, expect an April 2026 release window, similar to GTA 4. An ex-Rockstar employee said that even if the game is delayed, Rockstar will not reveal it until the last minute.
