Wolf Location in Dead Rails
In Dead Rails, wolves can appear in packs of 3-6, randomly in the barren lands while moving from one checkpoint to another. So make sure to keep an eye out for them at all times. These wolves have a fast movement speed and can easily overwhelm you if not dealt with quickly.
Moreover, there’s a slight chance that a Werewolf spawns in that pack as well, and they’re one of the toughest enemies to deal with. So, if you don’t want trouble, especially when you don’t have any arms yet, it’s recommended to skip this pack and search for another one. Nonetheless, no matter which pack you go for, the wild wolves in Dead Rails will attack you.
How to Tame Wolves in Dead Rails
The wild wolves simply need to be fed a corpse to tame them. So, you can follow these steps to tame them easily:
- Begin by unstoring a corpse from your sack by pressing the ‘F‘ key.
- Now hold the corpse in front of you using the left mouse button.
- Drag the corpse to bring it in front of the Wolf’s mouth. They won’t feel if it’s on the ground.
- As the wolf approaches, it will ignore you and eat the corpse instead.
- Make sure you have several corpses ready to quickly tame the others as well, because once a wolf is tamed, it’ll start attacking other wild ones and thereby lose health.
As mentioned above, you must not hold the corpse far away from the Wolf’s mouth; otherwise, it will attack you instead. Furthermore, each wolf must be fed a whole corpse, so make sure you have at least three ready in your sack.

Killing zombies is the easiest way to get such corpses. However, you can use any dead body in the game to feed the wolves, even horses.
Dead Rails Classes Tier List (April 2025)
With the latest update, you can now equip the Packmaster class for 35 Dead Rails Bonds that spawn with 3 tamed wolves as the game starts. Using this class, it becomes easier to tame wolves in Dead Rails. Simple stand as the wolves get closer, and the moment it bites you, it’ll get tamed.
How to Use Tamed Wolves in Dead Rails
Once you have a wolf in Dead Rails tamed, you can use it for several purposes. Some of these are
1. Make a Wolf Army
Once you can tame a wolf successfully, it will start protecting you at all costs. The wolves will be loyal to the point that they’ll start going after their own old pack. So, if you want to form an army of wolves, this will be your first step, too quickly bringing out more corpses and taming the other wolves.

2. Store Tamed Wolves
Having tamed the wolves in Dead Rails, you can also store the wolves in your sack. This makes you prepared for risky areas, as you can simply bring the wolves out, and they will distract the enemies for you. This will naturally help you win your engagements.
3. Weld Tamed Wolves on Train
Finally, you can hold the wolves in your hand, carry them towards the train, and weld them in the Dead Rails cart. Once you spot enemies nearby, quickly unweld them, and they will give chase. This strategy is beneficial when you’re being followed by a Werewolf or during a Red Moon night or other Dead Rails night events.
So that’s all about taming the Wolves in Dead Rails and using them to fight or distract the monsters. What strategy did you use with them? Let us know in the comments below!
