Mojang is redefining how players move the mobs in the game with the latest Minecraft Snapshot 25W16A. In this week’s update, Minecraft has brought about many changes to the leash mechanism. Let’s be honest, transporting all the mobs using the leash was tiresome, and we often lost count of how many times it broke while traversing the treacherous terrains. With the latest update, things will get a whole lot easier as you can now transport multiple mobs using the Minecraft leash. Well, I decided to try it out, and here’s what I think about it.
Group Mobs with Thicker Leashes
With the latest Minecraft Snapshot, leashes are now twice as thick in Java, matching Bedrock’s visuals. However, this is just the tip of the iceberg for all we will uncover. Now, you can leash two or more Minecraft mobs together, forming a linked caravan of your own, similar to the Wandering Trader in the game.
All you need to do is interact with a mob while sneaking and holding the lead in your hand. Once two mobs are wrangled up, hold sneak again and interact with either mobs to complete the caravan. Now repeat the process to increase its length.
This way, you can gather up entire herds of cows, sheep, chickens, or camels and transport them over to your base. As you can tell, it has opened a new set of possibilities for you to explore.
Ghasts Transport Bigger Mobs and Villagers
The most standout feature in this update is surely that you can now transport any mob using the Happy Ghasts. Whether you are talking about horses, camels, sniffers, or any other larger animal that could not be fitted on a boat previously, it can now be transported easily using the Happy Ghasts, Harness, and leash.
Once you have a Happy Ghast, interact with it while holding the harness to make it rideable. Now, place the leash on the Ghast and attach the other end to another passive mob, like a horse or camel, by holding the sneak key. This creates a quad-leash formation. Now, you can left-click on the Ghast to ride it and transport the animals easily.
A similar thing can be done with boats carrying up to two villagers or a single villager and a chest. The setup looks so amusing and reminds me of A Minecraft Movie (review) scene in which the piglins used this formation to raid the villages.
Better Leash Physics and Mechanics
Finally, once you have leashed a mob and begun dragging it, it will orient itself towards you. This mechanic is better experienced when the mob is not standing on level ground, such as when it is sitting on a boat. This way, the movement feels more natural and realistic.
If you have ever tried flying at supersonic speeds using the Elytra and Fireworks while holding a leashed animal, you might have noticed the mob dragging unintendedly. Well, now it has been fixed, and using a Fireworks will break all leash connections. Moreover, the leash distance is increased to 10-12 blocks before it gets snapped.

Suppose you don’t want to leash a mob anymore, so you can now use the Shears to cut or snip them instantly. Moreover, it has become easier to re-leash the mob when attached to the fence by interacting with the leash knot. Lastly, a layer of security is added that prevents the other players from stealing the leashed mobs.
That’s all about the new leash changes in Minecraft. Apart from these, the latest Minecraft Snapshot 25W16A changes the clouds to display them way up to the horizon, and the Nether Portal teleport range fix is reverted.
These changes are playable by downloading the latest Snapshot for Java in your Minecraft Launcher. So, have you tried transporting using the Ghasts as you saw in the Minecraft Movie? Let us know in the comments below!
