Free Destiny 2 Marathon Cosmetics Guide

Free Destiny 2 Marathon Cosmetics Guide

The comms crackled, static biting at your ears as the mission clock ticked down. Extract was in five, but your gear felt heavier than usual—a glitch in the system, maybe? Word on the street was that someone, somewhere, was getting rewarded just for showing up, their load lightened by free gear plundered from a bygone war.

Destiny 2 players have spotted a few free cosmetics inspired by Marathon, including an Exotic ornament ripped straight from the battlefields of Tau Ceti. Bungie dangled these digital carrots after revealing Marathon‘s release date (a date suspiciously close to the next major Destiny 2 update). More items are expected to surface for Silver, but let’s focus on the freebies, shall we?

Pre-order bonuses appeared on January 19, with other items hitting the Eververse Store the following day. The question is: can you find them? Here’s how to snag the available Marathon items in Destiny 2.

All free Marathon items in Destiny 2 and how to get them

Remember when you found that old box of LEGOs in the attic? Same principle here: a little digging reveals treasures. So far, the only free Marathon items live in the Eververse Store. This list will expand as Bungie drops more goodies. Special bonuses and one lapsed emblem are included below.

The Runner Kit offers the Modern MIDA Multitool ornament (for the MIDA Exotic), the Silkworm Weave Legendary shader (sporting that iconic lime green), and the Waiting for Exfil Exotic multiplayer emote.

Initial speculation pegged promo art items as future cosmetics, and it turns out they depict the emote from this very bundle. This doesn’t rule out further collab items down the line.

Will there be more Marathon-themed content in Destiny 2?

Only time will tell if Bungie intends to continue cross-promoting their universes through cosmetics, but if the demand is there, it’s reasonable to expect more. The success of this initial drop could very well dictate the future of such collaborations.

Where are the Marathon items in Destiny 2?

Finding things in the Tower can feel like trying to find a signal in the Deep Stone Crypt. Fear not, Guardian. The Runner Kit, with all three items, is free in the Eververse Store (now that it’s been fixed). You’ll spot it in the Weekly Offerings tab… for now.

Other Marathon items

Not all Marathon-themed goodies are free, and some are MIA altogether. Here’s a rundown of the remaining cosmetics that aren’t currently within your grasp.

Marathon Pre-Order rewards

This is your golden ticket—if you act fast. Pre-order Marathon before March 17 to get the Destiny 2: Marathon Pack (three cosmetics). The game drops on March 5, but you have a little breathing room to decide.

The prizes? The UESC Rover ship, UESC Sprinter sparrow, and the UESC Echo-type Ghost Shell, all slathered in Marathon‘s retro aesthetic. Consider it “free” with your pre-order; a bonus for being an early adopter.

Destination: Tau Ceti emblem (unobtainable)

Sometimes, the greatest treasures are the ones just out of reach. Watching last year’s Marathon gameplay reveal stream with a linked Twitch account nabbed you the Destination: Tau Ceti emblem. Right now, this cosmetic is locked away, but Bungie might resurrect it for another occasion. Never say never.

Are these Marathon items worth the effort?

Ultimately, cosmetics are a personal flex. But if you’re a completionist—or just someone who loves free stuff—these Marathon items are a no-brainer. It’s easy enough to grab the Eververse items, while pre-ordering Marathon gives you even more swag. It’s like finding a twenty in your old jeans: unexpected and welcome.

The Destiny 2 universe is a vast canvas, and these Marathon cosmetics are mere brushstrokes in a larger picture. But will this crossover be a masterpiece, or just a fleeting fad?
