Palia: Do Not Go Gentle Quest Walkthrough & Tips

The shadow wall breathed cold air against my face as I stepped through. A small, furious voice broke the hush, and I knew something in the Elderwood had been wronged. You can feel the map folding itself into a problem you have to solve.

Do Not Go Gentle quest walkthrough in Palia

The trail to the Zendruu Tree smells of rot and fresh sap.

I’ve walked this path enough times to know where players stall: the quest strings are short, but some steps hide behind vague prompts. I’ll walk you through each checkpoint so you don’t waste an hour circling the same bridge.

How to complete Do Not Go Gentle quest in Palia

The clearing in front of the Zendruu Tree is quieter than the maps suggest.

This quest starts automatically once you finish the Even As a Shadow mission, so if you’re standing at the shadow wall without a quest prompt, you’re not far enough in the main story. When the mission appears, follow these steps in order: find Ulfe, listen to the angry voice, sabotage the ballistas, harvest debris, rebuild the Echoling’s house, place flowers correctly, and grab the Flowflower. I’ll break each step down so you don’t miss a single interactable.

The game flags your progress at key story beats and waits for you to pass them.

How do I start the Do Not Go Gentle quest?

If you’ve completed Even As a Shadow and the Elderwood missions around it, the Do Not Go Gentle quest will trigger automatically. You don’t need a special item or a vendor—just finish those main-line objectives in the Elderwood area and the quest appears when you exit through the shadow wall.

Find Ulfe

The same stone arch from the previous mission frames the path you came through.

Start where Even As a Shadow ended, run down the path under the arch, and keep going until you hit the shadowy wall that marks the exit. Walk right through it; Ulfe will be waiting on the far side among the main Elderwood trees. Talk to him and move on—this first interaction is a quick trigger point.

Find the source of the angry voice

The paths around the Zendruu entrance have low visibility; trees bend the light.

After chatting with Ulfe, head straight a few paces until you stop just before the large twisted tree. Turn right, cross the first bridge, keep going and cross the second bridge—on the far side you’ll find an Angry Echoling waiting. Interact and pick any dialogue option; the conversation advances the quest and points you at the ballistas.

Sabotage the ballistas

Large wooden contraptions sit near the tree line like abandoned farm gear.

You need to sabotage three ballistas around the Zendruu Tree entrance. They look mechanical, roughly windmill-shaped, and they’re easy to miss if you’re scanning for monsters instead of props.

Where are the ballistas located?

  • The first ballista is back near the shadow wall entrance, close to where Ulfe stands.
  • The second sits behind Tamala on the little island between the two bridges you crossed.
  • The third is just past the second bridge near the Angry Echoling’s location.

Approach each one and press the on-screen Sabotage prompt (it shows the correct button per platform). Disable all three; that’s the most common checkpoint people miss when the quest won’t progress.

Return to the Angry Echoling

The second bridge is the natural return point; it bisects the area.

Once the three ballistas are broken, go back across the second bridge to the Angry Echoling and start the next interaction. If the quest doesn’t advance, double-check that all three sabotage prompts registered.

Harvest debris from nearby

The ground around the entrance collects odd piles of junk, glowing faintly purple.

This step is the one that trips most players. You need to find six debris piles highlighted by purple magic. They appear as two kinds of objects: wooden planks that require an axe and stone clusters that need a pickaxe. Break each pile, then loot the drops—don’t leave materials on the ground.

Rebuild the Echoling’s house

The ruined hut sits just behind the Echoling, a tidy pile of beams and shards.

What materials do I need to rebuild the Echoling’s house?

Bring the materials listed below to the sign beside the broken house and submit them. I recommend checking your inventory twice before interacting—the game consumes the items immediately.

  • 25 Ancient Wood
  • 10 Heartwood
  • 10 Sapwood
  • 10 Palium Ore
  • 1 Platinum Ore
  • 25 Whitestone
  • 10 Stone

After you hand those in at the sign, speak with the Echoling to confirm the job is done and trigger the next puzzle.

Plant the flowers in the right order

The little garden beside Subrira is set up like a display table with two planters.

On the right side of the house you’ll find two tables and a flower-order puzzle. Place the blooms in this sequence: Bluebells, Tulips, Gardenias, Roses. When they’re in place, press the Check Guess button on the mechanism between the beds. If it fails, swap the middle two—most mistakes happen there.

Gather the Flowflower

The Flowflower appears after the garden is checked; it’s a single glowing item.

Pick up the Flowflower and then talk to Subira near the flower beds. That final conversation completes Do Not Go Gentle. If you want to keep your momentum, consider chasing seasonal tasks like the Bulletin Board events or hunting for Red and Blue Eggs—both are great for materials and town reputation. I recommend checking community hubs like the Palia subreddit or the official Singularity 6 forum for recent spawn tips and photo guides shared by players on Steam and Discord.

The Zendruu path felt quieter after the Echoling’s house was mended, and I was left wondering—did the valley need a builder, or did it need someone who would care enough to stay and ask questions?
