Last Epoch Season 4: Rune of Corruption — Where to Get & How to Use

Last Epoch Season 4: Rune of Corruption — Where to Get & How to Use

I held my breath as numbers on the sword jumped and bled. You know that instant—your build either gains teeth or becomes dead weight. I still replay that moment when the screen confirmed the result.

A forge hums when a smith lays a blade on an anvil. How the Rune of Corruption bends Last Epoch gear

I’ve put Runes on both experimental weapons and boring white drops so you don’t have to learn by losing your favorite build. The Rune of Corruption is a Season 4 crafting reagent from Eleventh Hour Games that applies Corrupted Affixes to an item. Use it and the item is sealed: no more crafting sockets, no more affix changes.

When you apply the rune the outcome is pure RNG. Sometimes you get an exclusive Corrupted affix or max-rolls on existing stats; other times affixes weaken, disappear, or the item becomes unusable. It’s like a coin flip with a sledgehammer—the stakes are higher than a standard reroll.

How does Rune of Corruption work?

Drop the rune into the Forge, confirm the action, and accept that the game will replace standard mod outcomes with Corrupted results. The menu will warn you that the item becomes locked; treat that as the last warning.

Crowds gather at boss arenas like commuters at a subway stop. Where Runes come from and how you pick them up

You can obtain Runes two ways: fight for them, or buy them with Timeglass Fragments from Apophis in the End of Time.

  • Omen Window fights drop Runes: find Omen in Monolith of Fate or during campaign Omen encounters. The encounter is two-phased—Omen first empowers nearby mobs, then you clear those adds to trigger phase two where Omen is vulnerable. Beat phase two and you get a shot at a Rune of Corruption.
  • Apophis in the End of Time sells Runes for Timeglass Fragments, and also sells already Corrupted Items if you want the power without the gamble.

How do I get Rune of Corruption?

If you play Monolith runs on Steam or are active in the Last Epoch Discord, you’ll spot Apophis routes and Omen window map seeds people share—use those community cues to farm more effectively. I track rares and Omen spawns in my notes so my farming runs don’t waste a single Timeglass Fragment.

You pause before pressing any irreversible button. How to apply a Rune and what to expect

Open the Forge, place the item, select the Rune of Corruption from crafting materials, and confirm the prompt. That’s the whole sequence, and the game will lock the item after the action. I always take a screenshot of the pre-Rune rolls—evidence matters when you feel burnt.

The result can be generous—new Corrupted-only affixes, boosted rolls, and stat tiers pushed to the max—or it can be punishing: affixes removed, rarity dropped, stats weakened, or the item rendered useless. It’s a loaded die in a magician’s hat; sometimes the magic is spectacular, sometimes it’s a trick that eats your gear.

Can I reverse a corrupted item?

No. Once the Rune seals the item the change is permanent. If you want Corrupted power without risking your best pieces, buy Corrupted Items from Apophis or target Omen drops that you can treat as expendable experiments. Community tools on Steam, the Last Epoch Wiki, and Discord builders help you map which affixes you’d accept before you commit.

A veteran wipes their hands on a rag before deciding. How I manage risk so you don’t lose a carry

I separate “trial” and “anchor” gear: trial pieces get the Rune first. Anchor gear—your core uniques—never meet the Forge until I’m ready to swap into a proven Corrupted item. Use the Last Epoch Discord and build planners to list acceptable affix windows and target mods before you spend a Rune.

If you’re short on Timeglass Fragments, prioritize buying a Rune only after multiple Omen clears, or buy a Corrupted Item from Apophis for a guaranteed, risk-free Corrupted piece.
