Unlocking the Blacksmith in The First Berserker: Khazan Guide

If you’re seeking the blacksmith in The First Berserker: Khazan, you’re certainly not alone. Initially, they’re elusive, but numerous items hint at their existence. Fortunately, unlocking the blacksmith isn’t overly complicated by Khazan standards.

Players eager to unlock the blacksmith quickly in The First Berserker: Khazan may find themselves frustrated. The blacksmith NPC first appears during the fifth main story mission, titled “Strange Stench at Skoffa Cave,” where you rescue him from a massive demon spider.

After defeating the evil spider, you need to talk to the blacksmith, Qazumaka, back in the Crevice basement. However, he reveals he has lost his hammer! You’ll need to complete a separate mission with its own boss fight before you can return to the Crevice and start crafting.

How long does it take to unlock the blacksmith? In my experience, I struggled against the Embars Ruins boss for about two hours, while the boss before Skoffa Cave took me an additional hour. Including a thorough exploration of each level and other boss encounters, I spent easily eight or nine hours before adding the blacksmith to my roster of allies. Your time may vary based on grinding and your performance against bosses.

Keep in mind: blacksmith Qazumaka is solely available in the Human Realm version of the Crevice. You’ll need to navigate between it and the Netherworld to access different mission areas and crafting options.

The mission titled “Blacksmith’s Heirloom” is essential for retrieving Qazumaka’s hammer and unlocking crafting capabilities in the Crevice. This shorter task unfolds in a separate area of Skoffa Cave, known as Spider’s Tomb, located on the Charnak Mountain Range travel map.

At the mission’s start, you will enter a ruined mine at the Blade Nexus called Dead Spider’s Lair. Expect to encounter a Grantie Jocko, somewhat gorilla-like, along with several monkey-like Jockos. Clear them out and move through the doorway at the far end of the chamber.

More monkey enemies will emerge from the chasm at the room’s center, and a tougher vampire bat will be hanging from the ceiling across the pit. Use a Javelin to strike the bat before it awakens, stunning it momentarily.

Proceed up the path to your right, maintaining a leftward trajectory past more monkeys and a rocky gorilla. Be sure to loot the treasure chest in the gorilla’s cave, then continue up and out of the cave.

You will arrive at the Jocko Hill Blade Nexus, where you should avoid the red items on the ground, as these serve as bait for Crypt Devourer worm enemies.

Head right from the Blade Nexus, clearing Jocko enemies as you go.

How to Defeat Bearius and Unlock the Blacksmith in The First Berserker: Khazan

Bearius, the boss for this mission, is essentially an enhanced version of the regular bear enemies you’ve encountered thus far. Besides its larger size and health, Bearius is more dangerous due to the damage it inflicts. Even with good armor and levels above the game’s recommendations, his attacks can easily take you out in just a couple of hits.

Below are the various attacks Bearius may unleash, many of which will be familiar from encounters with smaller bears:

  • Side Swipe into Uppercut: The right paw swipes horizontally, followed by an uppercut that can send you flying if you’re hit.
  • Bear Hug Double Slash: Standing up on its hind legs, Bearius slashes down for heavy damage. This counts as a Burst Attack.
  • Belly Flop: Mimicking a bear hug, this move initiates with Bearius standing lower and slamming it’s body down for substantial damage.
  • Mouth Grab: Bearius extends its neck to grab you in its jaws and slams the ground with its left claw after throwing you.
  • Shoulder Check: Bearius can rock backward before charging with its shoulder.
  • Three Hit Combo: In this sequence, Bearius slashes with its left claws, attempts a backhand, then finishes with a powerful left claw slam.

As a beast-type enemy, Bearius is not able to regenerate stamina, but it possesses plenty of it. You’ll likely deplete its stamina bar only two or three times. Once the beast is defeated, climb the ladder located at the back-left of the arena and speak to Hengie. Afterward, you can return to the Crevice.

Finally, visit Qazumaka to enjoy his gratitude for retrieving his hammer and to commence your crafting journey.
