Each new discovery significantly aids the expedition’s understanding of the uncharted lands in Monster Hunter Wilds. Capturing rare endemic life forms is just as crucial as hunting apex predators. However, while some creatures are relatively easy to spot, others can be incredibly elusive, making them more challenging to find than a provoked guardian. To assist you in your quest to catch them all, we’ve compiled a comprehensive guide detailing all rare endemic and aquatic life locations in Monster Hunter Wilds, along with tips on how to successfully display them.
Rare Endemic Life Locations in Windward Plains
In the Windward Plains region of Monster Hunter Wilds, we discovered two exclusive rare endemic life forms: the Sandstar and the Black Windrustler. Below, you’ll find detailed locations for each specimen.
Sandstar
The Sandstar is an enchanting creature that glows in the dark, but it can be quite a challenge to locate. You can find them in the higher sections of Area 13, where they only emerge at night during the Plenty and Fallow seasons, with the latter offering more frequent encounters. Check out the location image below:

Due to their quick movements and keen eyesight, even while wearing the Ghillie Mantle, it’s essential to bring along Screamer Pods to stagger the Sandstar before attempting to capture it with your net. Successfully catching a Sandstar will earn you the “I Caught a Shooting Star” trophy.
Black Windrustler
The Black Windrustler, another swift creature, can be found in Areas 7, 8, and 10 within the Plenty season. Although its spawn rate is rare, its distinctive black scales stand out, making it easier to spot in its habitat. We discovered one in Area 7, as shown below:

Rare Endemic Life Locations in Scarlet Forest
The Scarlet Forest boasts the highest variety of rare endemic and aquatic life forms in Monster Hunter Wilds, featuring seven unique specimens, predominantly found during the Plenty season.
Hymstrigian
You can find the purple and rose-colored Hymstrigian perched in branches at the center of the shallow river in Area 8. While time of day seems less significant, they are notably more visible during the Plenty season. If you don’t see them immediately, let the area reset and await their return.

Dazzlewing
Dazzlewings are exclusively found during the Plenty season atop broken tree remains in Areas 6 and 11. These diurnal birds are best spotted during daylight, and a properly aimed net can aid in their capture.

Regal Jewel Scarab
You can find Regal Jewel Scarabs lodged in the trunks of large trees located in Areas 2 and 3, exclusively during the Fallow season on trees with crimson sap. Below is the spot where we encountered them:

Goliath Squid
Available only through fishing, the Goliath Squid can be spotted in Area 17’s large lake during nighttime. While they seem to be prevalent during the Plenty season, utilizing the Tentacle Jig bait increases the chances of a catch. Capturing this squid grants you the exclusive “Monster (Squid) Hunter” trophy.

Petricanths
You can discover Petricanths in a small lake facing the Ruin Interior Camp in Area 16, more commonly during the Plenty season. Players have also reported sightings in Oilwell Basin’s Area 14, although they were absent from our exploration there.

Curioshell Crab
The Curioshell Crab is arguably the easiest rare endemic creature to locate. Found near the Underground Lake Camp in Area 8, they are frequently visible, particularly during the Plenty season. You can also find them at Windward Plains, near the Groundwater Vein Camp (Area 14). Capturing one unlocks the “A Prize Held High” trophy.

Grand Escunite and Escunite
Also located at Area 8’s Underground Lake Camp during the Plenty season, both Grand Escunites and regular Escunites can be caught via fishing or a well-aimed net. They are easy to identify due to their distinct size and shape.

Rare Endemic Life Locations in Oilwell Basin
The Oilwell Basin features three rare endemic life forms, including the elusive Peony Sparklerjelly. Here’s where to find them:
Azure Rufflizard
Azure Rufflizards can be found across the Oilwell Basin, with Area 4 being a prime spot near the ancient forge. They frequently share spawn locations with their green relatives, making them easier to spot.

Peony Sparklerjelly
The unique Peony Sparklerjelly appears exclusively in Areas 13 and 14 during the Plenty season, only at evening or nighttime. Seen from a distance as a giant floating cell, it’s easily captured with one net throw. Below is the location where we found one:

Nu Yaya
The offspring of Nu Udra, the Nu Yaya can only be found in Area 17 of the Basin. They will spawn after encountering a Tempered Nu Udra during the Firespring (Inclemency) season. This event will lead Alma to highlight the existence of the eggs in the apex’s lair, ensuring abundant Nu Yaya sightings in the following Plenty season. To unlock this opportunity, players must reach Hunter Level 40 and complete the What Lies Ahead quest.

Rare Endemic Life Locations in Iceshard Cliffs and Ruins of Wyveria
In the Iceshard Cliffs and Ruins of Wyveria, we discovered three rare endemic life specimens, with the latter proving most elusive. Below are their locations:
Downy Crake
Downy Crakes can be spotted on small monsters in the Iceshard Cliffs during the Fallow season. They are often seen riding Rafmas in Area 12. Capturing them requires throwing your net at the Crakes and dealing with the creature that carries them.

Gillopod
This species is exclusive to the Ruins of Wyveria. We observed Gillopods along the pathway leading from the Crumbling Structures Camp to Area 2, mainly during the Wyvern’s Stirring (Inclemency) season and only during the daytime.

Prism Hercudrome
The last endemic life we identified is the Prism Hercudrome, which can only be found at a specific tree in Ruins of Wyveria’s Area 6. This creature only appears during the Plenty season and is active shortly before dawn. Positioning yourself in the highlighted tree area at night increases your chances of spotting this rare specimen.

How to Display Rare Endemic Life in MH Wilds
For those eager to showcase their rare endemic life catches, it’s important to note that you cannot display them at will in Monster Hunter Wilds. Instead, once you’ve captured these creatures, you’ll be able to find them at the main tent in the Windward Plains Base Camp. However, only one creature will appear at a time, which will change randomly after each area reset.
