Your shovel is essential in the digging adventure of Dig. It serves multiple purposes: helping you dig, earn money, defeat bosses, and advance through the game. Choosing the right shovel can really impact your gameplay experience, making it crucial for your success.
To get the most value for your in-game currency, review each shovel’s stats and compare them to their prices to evaluate their price-to-performance ratio. Dig Early Game Shovels
Toy Shovel
Your adventure kicks off with the Wooden Shovel as the default option during the tutorial. Once you finish, visit the merchant to buy either the Toy Shovel or the Training Shovel. If you excel at the minigames, opt for the Toy Shovel; however, if you find the minigames tricky, the Training Shovel offers better control.

Ruby Shovel
Next, travel to Cinder Shores, located west of Fox Town. Here, visit Cindy’s shop to find two new shovels: the Bell Shovel and the Ruby Shovel. It’s wise to save up for the Ruby Shovel, which will offer improved control and strength.

This shovel is your primary investment for money-making and progression. Alternatively, you can defeat the King Crab to earn the helpful Abyssal Shovel at no cost, although it has the lowest haste in the game. If you’ve mastered strong hits, this shovel can still take you far in the mid-game when paired with the right charms.
Dig Mid Game Shovels
Jam Shovel
Once you reach level 15, accumulate $20,000 (about €19,000) for the Jam Shovel and an additional $2,200 (approximately €2,100) for the Jar of Jam charm. This combination is perfect for navigating the early mid-game.
The Jam Shovel boasts excellent haste, and when used with the jam charm, it provides an even greater strength boost. To maximize your farming efforts during this phase, consider enchanting the shovel.

Candlelight Shovel
If you prefer a free mid-game shovel, consider defeating the Candlelight Phantom boss. While the Abyssal Shovel is easier to acquire, its poor haste can hinder progress. The Candlelight Shovel, however, provides solid luck and strength, making it a preferable choice.

Dig Late Game Shovels
Gold Digger Shovel
The early late game can be the hardest phase, filled with the need for charms, horns, and other costly items. To navigate this effectively, save up for the Gold Digger Shovel rather than settling for the Frigid or Obsidian shovels. While the latter two have decent stats, the Gold Digger enables greater efficiency and profit with its Golden mutation.

Prismatic Shovel
Once your digging has led to significant riches, aim for the Prismatic Shovel. It’s a far better choice than the overpriced Starfire Shovel, as the latter’s stats don’t justify its $600,000 (around €570,000) price. Coupled with a strong charm, the Prismatic Shovel excels in farming items of any rarity in Dig.
