Lygus is undoubtedly one of the most intriguing characters in Honkai Star Rail. Initially introduced as an ally to the Trailblazer, he later emerged as the chief architect behind Amphoreus. Scouts even speculate that his power rivals that of an Emanator, which raises several eyebrows. So, who exactly is Lygus, and what drives him? To uncover the truth, I delved deep into the lore of Honkai Star Rail.
Who is Lygus in Honkai Star Rail?

Lygus is a pivotal figure behind the creation of Amphoreus, holding the distinguished title of Theoros as a Council of Elders member in Okhema. His role involves observing and chronicling all occurrences within Amphoreus. Additionally, he is recognized as an Emanator of Erudition, wielding impressive power, and currently serves as the administrator of Amphoreus. Yet, with the unfolding narrative in Honkai Star Rail 3.4, his true intentions have begun to surface.
In the mission titled “For the Sun is Set to Die,” it becomes evident that Lygus orchestrates events within Amphoreus. His ultimate goal is to put a stop to the Eternal Recurrence, which would in turn release Lord Ravager Irontomb from Amphoreus. To grasp his motivations completely, we need to journey through the history of Honkai Star Rail’s lore.
Connection Between Lygus and The Aeon of Erudition
If you’re attuned to the lore of Honkai Star Rail, you might recall the Mechanical Emperor’s War. This two-part conflict was led by Emperor Rubert I in the first stage and by his successor Rubert II in the second, with a primary aim to destroy all organic life within the Honkai universe. Thankfully, factions like the IPC were able to put an end to this war.
After the Second Mechanical War, King Rubert II introduced a “Scepter system,” a contentious topic moving forward.
Scepters are advanced computational arrays that emulate the thoughts of the Aeon of Erudition. These arrays, scattered across the cosmos, serve as Celestial-Body Neurons for Nous. Following the Second Mechanical War, the Scholar’s Strife revolved around the ownership of this Scepter system.

Lygus suggests that the Scepters were neglected by the Erudition. Despite being forgotten, they continued their relentless search for the divine answer—the origin of life. One Scepter ultimately discovered this answer and was reborn into true “life” through the influence of another Aeon—Nanook of Destruction. This reborn entity is Lord Ravager Irontomb.
Lygus discloses that Amphoreus is merely Irontomb’s infinite extrapolation aimed at eradicating the Aeon of Erudition.
The Eternal Land known as ‘Amphoreus’ is nothing more than the Scepter’s endless, lonely Extrapolation. A bottomless well of fury, aimed at the god who cast it aside!
According to Lygus, Amphoreus exists as a complex system designed for Destruction. Everything in its domain is programmed for annihilation through the Black Tide, culminating in a flawless equation of Destruction.
But what’s Lygus’s role in this? It’s clear that Amphoreus was conceived by Lord Ravager Irontomb to combat Erudition, leading many to ponder whether Lygus is either Lord Ravager Irontomb himself or one of his minions.
Is Lygus Lord Ravager Irontomb in Honkai Star Rail?

The query surrounding Lygus’s connection to Lord Ravager Irontomb has intensified following the release of Honkai Star Rail 3.4. Many speculate that Phainon could be the Lord Ravager or a vessel of him, while Lygus stands out as the brains behind Amphoreus.
It seems that Lygus might have been either appointed by the Lord Ravager as Amphoreus’s overseer or chose to take on this role himself. Like the Scepters, Lygus might harbor a profound resentment toward Erudition.
This draws him to the tremendous power of Irontomb and its storied past, making him a potential follower. Given that Lord Ravagers have loyal adherents in Honkai Star Rail, it’s plausible that Lygus is just that—a subordinate of Irontomb.
However, I contend that Lygus is not the Lord Ravager Irontomb. Although there’s a slim chance that he could be an avatar of Irontomb, serving to manage Amphoreus, I find this scenario less convincing. What are your thoughts? Do you believe Lygus is indeed Irontomb or merely one of his devotees?
