Jujutsu Kaisen Foreshadows Tragic Fate for First Year Trio with Clever Word Play

The first year trio of “Jujutsu Kaisen” (aka Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara) has been through numerous ups and downs since the Shibuya Incident Arc.

Previously, while Nobara’s status remained unknown and Yuji believed she was dead, Megumi’s body had been possessed by the King of Curses. Now that Sukuna has finally been defeated, and the trio has a chance to reunite, it seems like the manga will deliver a happy ending.

However, the title of chapter 270, “End of a Dream,” seems to hint at a rather tragic end for the first year trio.

Particularly, a well-known “Jujutsu Kaisen” (often referred to as ‘JJK’ by fans) translator shared that fans refer to Yuji (yu), Megumi (me), and Nobara (no) as a trio, and thus the title “End of a Dream” can also sound like “End of YuMeNo” – causing speculations that the trio will reach an “end”. Of course, many fans missed this subtle hint as it got lost in translation.

The translator further commented, “I’m not leaning particularly hard on any theories tbh I’m just here for a good time. But my sentimentality made me think of Gojo’s dream to reset the jujutsu world by nurturing students and sorcerers. It’d be nice if this chapter represented that dream being fulfilled.”

On the other hand, “Jujutsu Kaisen” fans have their own interpretations of the meaning behind chapter 270’s title. One fan commented, “I interpreted it as the end of yuji, megumi and nobara’s journey because jjk ends next week.

Meanwhile, another added, “Pretty fun fact. Unclear if it’s referring to a bad ending or delusion dream state. Probably not since it’s JJK fans being JJK fans but I think it’s more of the trio’s conclusion in the next chapter since it’ll end there.”

Finally, a fan took a new spin on the word play “End of a Dream” and jokingly speculated that everything may have been a dream, adding that this would explain why Megumi’s scar suddenly disappears and why everyone suddenly comes back to life, except for those whose deaths Yuji witnessed firsthand.

Additionally, with the manga “Jujutsu Kaisen” set to conclude next week, fans are hoping for a part 2, though Shonen Jump has made no promises of a sequel.

Even so, many fans remain excited about the possibility of “Jujutsu Kaisen” Part 2, especially considering the series’ huge popularity both in and outside of Japan.

However, there are also many who believe there will never be a part 2. One fan commented that those who think there will be a part 2 must be having a hard time due to the ending closely approaching.

“It’s clear that Gege has finished the story”, this fan insisted, adding that the completion shows in the author’s writing and the number of breaks he’s taken over the past few years.
