The project was announced in 2017 and a pilot film was released at an event in 2024. To mark the full-scale launch of the project, the teaser visual has been updated to feature an “Ingram” designed specifically for “Mobile Police Patlabor EZY.” This design allows viewers to feel the history of the “Ingram,” which has undergone continuous modifications and been in use for 30 years within the story. Further details will be announced at a later date.
In addition, to coincide with the revival screening (September 20th) of “Mobile Police Patlabor The Movie” on Filmarks, Japan’s largest movie, drama, and anime review service, a screening of the pilot film for “Mobile Police Patlabor EZY” has also been decided. The admission gift for the revival screening of “Mobile Police Patlabor The Movie” will be a double A5 mini-poster featuring both “Mobile Police Patlabor The Movie” and “Mobile Police Police Patlabor EZY.”
“Mobile Police Patlabor” was originally produced as an original video animation in April 1988. Set in Tokyo at the end of the 20th century, the story depicts the activities of the Special Vehicles 2 Division, a team that uses robots called Ingrams to combat crime in a world where police robots with cherry blossom crests patrol the city. The series has been a hit as an OVA, theatrical film, comic, and TV anime, and even today, years after the in-universe timeline has been surpassed by the real world, it continues to be loved by countless fans. It was also adapted into a live-action film directed and written by Mamoru Oshii.
