Shin Min-ah Sparks Debate Over “The Remarried Empress” Casting

On October 10, an entertainment insider revealed to JTBC Entertainment News that Shin Min-ah‘s next project has been confirmed, adding that she is set to star in the SBS drama “The Remarried Empress”.

Based on a romance and fantasy web novel of the same name, “The Remarried Empress” follows Navier, a perfect empress of the Dongda empire, who chooses to divorce her husband, the emperor, upon discovering his intention to make his concubine the new empress. Determined to become an empress elsewhere if she cannot remain one here, the story unfolds from there.

In “The Remarried Empress”, Shin Min-ah takes on the role of the flawless empress Navier, raising expectations for her enhanced romantic performance.

However, some are questioning the casting decision, wondering why actress Soo Ae wasn’t chosen instead. This stems from Soo Ae’s previous appearance in a Naver Series advertisement for “The Remarried Empress”, where she effectively portrayed the protagonist Navier, garnering significant attention. The video, uploaded 5 years ago, has amassed nearly 1 million views, indicating ongoing interest. This has led to discussions among netizens, with some suggesting that Soo Ae would have been a better fit for the role.

This is not the first time casting has sparked debate among viewers. A notable example occurred when tvN adapted the webtoon “Cheese in the Trap”, resulting in controversy over Kim Go-eun’s casting as the lead character, which many felt diverged from the original portrayal. However, the drama eventually quieted those concerns once it aired.

As anticipation builds for how Shin Min-ah will portray Navier in this new adaptation, all eyes are on the upcoming drama.
