NewJeans Makes History as Sole Kpop Artist in Pitchfork’s “Best Songs of the 2020s”

On Sep 30th (local time), Pitchfork published its list of the “100 Best Songs of the 2020s (so far)” on its website, ranking “Super Shy” at 13th.

It was the only K-pop song included in the list, which was selected by Pitchfork’s editorial team.

Pitchfork noted “K-pop has always been home to audacious genre-blending, but NewJeans feel revelatory in their decorum, draping their dance music in hushed atmospheres“, praising “Super Shy” as NewJeans’ most effortless masterstroke.

Pitchfork, known for its rigorous musical evaluations, is globally recognized for its authority. When “Get Up” was released in July last year, the publication awarded it a score of 7.6, the second-highest rating among K-pop albums.

Additionally, “Super Shy” was ranked 7th in Pitchfork’s “100 Best Songs of 2024” list last year.

In the current ranking, Lana Del Rey’s “A&W” (2024) took the top spot, followed by RXK Nephew’s “American tterroristt” (2020) in second, and Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” (2024) in third.
