On the morning of Sep 25th, the press conference for “Gyeongseong Creature season 2” was held at Seoul Dragon City in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. This event marked Han So-hee’s first public appearance with a new project since her personal life controversy in March, drawing significant attention.
“Gyeongseong Creature” season 2 is set in 2024 Seoul and follows the story of Ho-jae, who resembles Tae-sang in every way, and Chae-ok, who survived the spring of Gyeongseong, as they uncover the ongoing ties, fate and ill-fated relationships. This season follows season 1, which was released in December last year and January this year.
Park Seo-joon returns as Jang Tae-sang, the owner of Gyeongseong’s top pawnshop, and Jang Ho-jae, who resembles him in every way. Han So-hee plays Yoon Chae-ok, who was known for finding missing people in Gyeongseong and now works in Seoul.
When asked about her thoughts ahead of the release of season 2, Han So-hee said, “It’s been a long time since filming wrapped up, and now season 2 is finally being released to the world. In season 1, it was just Park Seo-joon and me, but this time, with Lee Moo-saeng and Bae Hyun-sung, it feels like we’re presenting a new work.“
Regarding her role as Chae-ok, who has lived through different eras, Han So-hee explained, “The changes in the era didn’t impact Chae-ok as much as the focus was on portraying the passage of time. As a character who has lived through this time alone, I focused on understanding what kind of mindset she would have endured.“
The time difference between season 1 and season 2 is a staggering 79 years. Han So-hee had to portray Chae-ok, who lived through those 79 years alone, with subtle yet distinct differences.
Han So-hee described Chae-ok as “a selfless character who lives for others more than herself. In the past, she had a desire to achieve something, but as time passed, that desire faded. Now, she has lost her reason and purpose for living, and she has evolved to live more for others than for herself“.
Another highlight of season 2 is the more intense action scenes. Han So-hee shared, “For the action scenes, I tried wire work for the first time. I overcame my fear of heights. Since my character has superhuman strength, the movements had to be faster and more precise. There was a lot of practice involved, and we worked on our timing extensively beforehand.”
In March, Han So-hee became embroiled in a personal life controversy after dating and breaking up with actor Ryu Jun-yeol over a two-week period. The situation escalated when Ryu Jun-yeol’s ex-girlfriend Hyeri was mentioned, leading to a heated exchange on social media, placing Han So-hee at the center of public attention.
“Gyeongseong Creature 2” marks Han So-hee’s first project since the controversy, and some are concerned about whether her personal life issues might negatively affect the drama.
Addressing this, Han So-hee said, “I always hope that people enjoy watching my work. I believe that my personal matters should not interfere with my public ones. I hope you find season 2 enjoyable and fun.”
“Gyeongseong Creature” season 2 will be released on Sep 27th.
