Jang Nara Opens Up About Married Life: Husband is My Everything

On the 23rd, Jang Nara held an interview in Seoul’s Jongno-gu district to mark the conclusion of the SBS Friday-Saturday drama “Good Partner”.

Jang Nara got married to a drama cinematographer six years her junior in 2024. During her honeymoon phase, she took on the role of a divorce lawyer in the drama.

In a recent appearance on tvN’s “You Quiz on the Block”, she shared, “While filming ’Good Partner’, I sometimes questioned why I even got married and thought, ‘Maybe I shouldn’t have.’ But then, when I get home and my husband calls me ‘Honey,’ it makes me pause and smile. Thankfully, we’re doing great,” which sparked a lot of attention.

When asked if working on divorce cases in the drama helped her empathize more after getting married, she responded, “When I’m acting, I don’t think about my personal life at all. Once, I was filming a difficult scene and I realized that when I was feeling down, I couldn’t perform a scene where my character was supposed to talk about it. I learned that I can only act when I separate myself from the emotions. Whether married or single, acting out an affair always feels unpleasant,” she said, drawing laughter.

When asked if her view of marriage and divorce changed after filming “Good Partner”, Jang Nara shared, “I do think marriage is difficult. After all, I lived separately for over forty years, but now I’m living with someone else. Even with your parents or blood siblings, you can fight like enemies.” She continued, “I think starting marriage itself is a miracle. And maintaining it is incredible too. I’ve also come to believe that there’s no reason to view divorce in a negative light. One of my lines in the final episode was, ‘Whether you marry or divorce, it’s a choice. The effort to make the best of that choice is up to me. I should do my best, and if it doesn’t work out, then make another choice.’ I really resonated with that.”

Talking about her actual married life, she emphasized, “I’m happy. I’m extremely happy,” bringing smiles to everyone. Jang Nara added, “My husband is the talkative one. I used to be quieter, but he enjoys sharing his daily routine with me.”

When asked about advice her husband, who works in the same industry, gave her while watching “Good Partner”, she shared, “He’s usually emotional and kind, but when it comes to watching dramas or checking the final product, he becomes very critical. When we watch together, our opinions differ. I focus on the acting, while my husband concentrates on the cinematography and mise-en-scène.” She added, “He takes a professional approach even when discussing the acting. Thankfully, he said I did a great job in this project. ‘Good Partner’ was something my husband strongly encouraged me to take on.”

Jang Nara mentioned she hasn’t decided on her next project yet, shared “During Chuseok, I’ll visit my in-laws, restart my workout routine, and do a thorough house cleaning. Marriage changes things like that. On my days off, I can’t just laze around anymore.”
