Team Dramabeans: Our Watchlist – October 19, 2024

So, what are we all watching this week?

What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in…

Currently covering: Jeongnyeon – The Star is Born

Love Next Door: It took me a good week and a half to watch the final episode, and not for any specific reason — I just didn’t feel much of a pull to watch it, even though it was enjoyable and I’m pretty happy with where each character ended up. I may have even shed a tear or two over Seok-ryu’s dad giving her the restaurant (though I don’t see how she can possibly run it entirely by herself, but that’s a different matter). This show wasn’t anything spectacular to be sure, but at the end of the day, it was an easy watch that kept me coming back even when I didn’t quite know why.

Currently covering: The Judge from Hell

A Virtuous Business: I started this drama for the novelty of a group of 90s ladies selling adult toys and stuck around for the strong female relationships. Not surprised that Jung-sook’s husband cheated on her, but I’m fine with the drama tossing this cliché at us so I can ship her guilt-free with Do-hyun (because Daily Dose of Sunshine made me a big Yeon Woo-jin fan).

Family by Choice: A found family story at its finest! (Plus In-yub!) The dynamics between the kids and the fathers is great, and I like the twist of having a pair of fathers co-parent the kids, since more often than not it’s the father who’s the deadbeat in these types of stories. I suspect that Hae-joon’s mother was running from someone so I’m not ready to call her a bad mother, but San-ha’s mom is a narcissist who really pisses me off. I get that she lost her daughter and has some mental health issues and trauma, but there’s definitely more to that story — like, where was she when her kids were home alone — as hinted by San-ha in these latest episodes. I hope she doesn’t get a redemption arc. I kinda just want to keep on hating her.

Dear Hyeri: I’m still watching this one, but I’m not sure why anymore. Maybe because there’s not much else in the Mon-Tues time slot?
