On Oct 16th, a highlight screening and press conference for TVING’s drama “Love in the Big City” took place at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by directors Hur Jin-ho, Hong Ji-young, Son Tae-gyum, Kim Se-in, writer Park Sang-young, and actors Nam Yoon-su, Oh Hyun-kyung, Kwon Hyuk, Na Hyun-woo, Jin Ho-eun and Kim Won-joong.
“Love in the Big City” follows the 10-year journey of writer Go Young (played by Nam Yoon-su) learning about life and love through ups and downs. The series adopts a Hollywood system of varying direction for each episode, with Hur Jin-ho, Hong Ji-young, Son Tae-gyum and Kim Se-in directing four episodes, with each director handling two episodes of 50 minutes each. The script was written by Park Sang-young, the author of the original novel.
The work has faced backlash from some conservative groups due to its portrayal of homosexuality.
In this regard, Park Sang-young conveyed a positive mindset, “I posted on SNS out of frustration, but I thought, ‘How much are they trying to publicize our work? It’s Lucky Vicky, isn’t it? Don’t successful works cause controversy?”
Nam Yoon-su stated that he does not pay attention to the negative reactions from certain groups. He remarked, “When hate comments come in, I just laugh them off. Instead, I get a lot of supportive messages. I wake up to about 100 of them each morning.”
He added, “I think there has been a change in the past few days. People’s thoughts are changing, and I believe a path forward has opened for us. It makes me emotional. I realized that our society is becoming more open.“
Meanwhile, “Love in the Big City” will premiere on Oct 21st.
