19+ Historical Drama Remake To Be Released On Netflix: Major News For Son Ye-jin And Ji Chang-wook

According to the broadcasting industry, the film “Untold Scandal” will be reborn as a Netflix series, with Son Ye-jin and Ji Chang-wook taking the leading roles in the remake.

However, Untold Scandal has not been well-received in terms of its content. It’s not a classic that audiences feel compelled to watch, making the announcement of a television adaptation somewhat puzzling.

According to Naver, Son Ye Jin is a star who is unafraid to take on steamy scenes when the script demands it. As the first-generation “nation’s first love” in the Korean entertainment industry, she has previously shed her innocent image to fully embrace her roles in films like White Night and April Snow. She has even earned the title of “queen of steamy scenes,” alongside fellow actresses Jo Yeo Jung and Song Ji Hyo.

However, many viewers believe she should avoid 18+ films at this stage in her career.

As she married Hyun Bin, Son Ye Jin became more conscious of her image. In the drama 39, she requested to reduce intimate scenes with her male co-star. This is why Untold Scandal seems at odds with her current persona.

Son Ye Jin’s new film may be directed by Jung Ji Woo, known for adult-themed films such as Eungyo (2012), featuring Kim Go Eun, and Somebody, which contain significant erotic content.

“Why is Son Ye Jin agreeing to this role?” “The theme is too dull; there are many webtoons with fresh and engaging stories for her to explore.” “She’s no longer at an age where she needs steamy scenes to prove her courage and dedication to her craft; she shouldn’t do 18+ films.” “The content feels outdated; it’s such a waste of talent.” “This isn’t a masterpiece that deserves multiple adaptations.” “This is an important project marking her return after marriage; Son Ye Jin shouldn’t take on erotic films,” many viewers expressed their dissatisfaction with the news of her participation in an 18+ film.

Meanwhile, “Untold Scandal”, directed by Lee Jae-yong, is a 2003 film that adapts the French novel “Les Liaisons dangereuses” into a Chosun-era setting. The story revolves around the notorious temptress Lady Cho (played by Lee Mi-sook) and the womanizer Jo-won (played by Bae Yong-joon) as they engage in an impertinent love game to corrupt Lady Jeong (played by Jeon Do-yeon), a young woman of great virtue.

In the series reinterpretation of “Untold Scandal”, Son Ye-jin will play the role of Lady Cho, while Ji Chang-wook will portray Jo-won. The series will be directed by Jung Ji-woo, known for films such as “Happy End”, “Modern Boy”, “A Muse” and “Tune in for Love”.

With the collaboration of Son Ye-jin and Ji Chang-wook generating anticipation, “Untold Scandal” is set to begin filming in March next year.
