The new JTBC weekend drama “A Virtuous Business” (directed by Jo Woong, written by Choi Bo-rim, provided by SLL, produced by HighZium Studio, 221b) is a full-fledged drama about disruption and door-to-door sales. Set in 1992, in a rural village where the topic of “sex” was still taboo, the series follows four “Bangpan Sisters” as they venture into selling adult products, telling a story of their independence, growth, and friendship. The third teaser, released today (the 20th), shows the intriguing narrative unfolding as the mysterious man, Kim Do-hyun (played by Yeon Woo-jin), who exudes a Hollywood “cool water” scent, meets the strange country woman, Han Jeong-sook (played by Kim So-yeon).
The video opens with Do-hyun’s first appearance, making the hearts of the women in the village skip a beat. He steps out of a topless Jeep, removes his sunglasses with flair, looking like a Hollywood actor surrounded by the “cool water” scent. Even the officers at the Geumje Police Station, where he’ll be working, are surprised. Do-hyun’s impressive background includes attending high school in the U.S. and serving as a top detective in Seoul’s Gangnam Police Station. However, something seems off about him—he claims he came to this rural town simply because “it seemed like a good place to live.” His suspicious behavior continues as he’s caught secretly entering the police station’s document storage room late at night when no one is around.
The mysterious American-style detective Do-hyun then encounters an even stranger woman, Jeong-sook. She pleads desperately, calling him her “last hope,” and asks for help to retrieve a bag she left on the bus. When he finds the bag, it turns out that her “hope” is filled with strange items—whips, pink fur-lined handcuffs, and provocative lingerie spill out of the bag. But that’s not all. Jeong-sook is also seen shouting alone at a mountain spring, asking bizarre survey questions, and even appears at a brothel after Do-hyun responds to a report about the place. Despite being someone who detests crossing boundaries in an American-style fashion, Do-hyun finds himself strangely drawn to Jeong-sook.
Their odd relationship unfolds in the video, concluding with a romantic scene where the two stand together under a shower of flower petals at night, smiling happily. This makes viewers curious about the story that will develop between the two.
The production team of “A Virtuous Business” stated, “Jeong-sook is a housewife who, in order to support her son and manage her household, gets involved in selling adult products door-to-door, replacing her irresponsible husband. Do-hyun, on the other hand, is a top detective who left the prestigious Gangnam station for a mysterious reason to come to Geumje. Their relationship, which initially seems to have no connection, gradually builds an intriguing story of the ‘Bangpan Sisters’ who, ahead of their time, begin to express honest and confident voices about sexuality.
