Don’t you just hate it when you’re short a few million dollars to produce a drama with your dream team of actors, writers, and directors? *pouts* Well, we found a way to scratch that itch!
Introducing the new Dramabeans community series Cast Away — where Beanies can advocate for their chosen actors and creatives in imaginary roles.
How it works: Each week, we’ll share a hypothetical K-drama plot with you. In the comments, discuss who you think is the perfect cast to play the roles in this imaginary show.
You can also go wild and introduce more characters, rename the show, pick your favorite director, etc. Who knows? Maybe our collective wishing will manifest fantasy casting into reality.
This week’s K-drama plot: A time-traveling revenge cupid
In a totally not-a-ripoff of a popular, currently airing revenge drama, a woman discovers right before death that her cantankerous mother-in-law was the childhood sweetheart of her distant uncle. It was this hidden connection that led to said MIL bullying her all throughout the marriage. When the daughter-in-law wakes up from death and discovers she has traveled ten years back in time, she decides to play cupid between her uncle and future mother-in-law.
Of course, nothing is ever easy. Both parties claim they were wronged and would rather die than reunite. (They say before going to the basement to stare lovingly at old photographs.) And what’s worse, for some reason, as our heroine inches closer to her cupid plan, her own future marriage starts to become uncertain. Are the two relationships inversely connected?
Sorry, MIL, looks like it’s time to break up your relationship again!
Which mother and daughter-in-law duo would be perfect for this story? They have to drive you mad when they’re arguing, make you cackle when they’re being petty, and make you cry when they’re being honest. (You can also mix it up by swapping in a father or son-in-law.) And who is your dream older couple pairing? Imagine they have their own full story and they’re not just a comedic side plot. Are there any veteran actors you would love to see in a twilight romance? The future husband’s role isn’t fully fleshed out, but feel free to cast him too and give him a full story. Or you can imagine that it’s a drama gimmick that we never even see the husband’s face until *BAM* a drama meta cameo happens in episode 16.
Feel free to request a plot line for future Cast Away posts. We’ll do our best (beep-boop!) to serve a fun twist on it.
