“The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract” tells the story of Park Yeon-woo, a Joseon confucian girl who struggles to return back to Joseon after time-traveling 200 years in time to the year 2024 after being thrown into a well by an unknown person after the death of Kang Tae-ha (Bae In-hyuk), her husband.
The early episodes of “The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract” felt somewhat bland, with Park Yeon-woo’s active story not prominently featured. Transitioning to the modern era, she faces comedic situations, adapting to the unfamiliar environment. However, meeting Lee Mi-dam (Kim Yeo-jin) and starting to showcase her talent, Park Yeon-woo’s charm and presence begin to shine. Her unique skills as a hanbok designer, learned from her mother in Joseon, become crucial in defending against challenges from Min Hye-suk (Jin Kyung), the representative of SH Seoul.
Just like in “The Red Sleeve”, in “The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract”, Lee Se-young excels in portraying characters that shine the most when working. Whether it’s Seong Deok-im or Park Yeon-woo, both characters become more attractive when they reveal their identity not as a character submerged in a melodramatic love story but as someone who has their own area of expertise.
It is not an exaggeration to say that “The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract” is a drama led by Lee Se-young at the forefront. This is because the moment her charm explodes, viewers also fall in love with this drama. Starting with a rating of 5.6% (Nielsen Korea), the drama saw a substantial increase, nearly doubling, reaching 9.6% in episode 6 when Park Yeon-woo finally starts working in earnest. “The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract” has started to shine again thanks to Lee Se-young’s charm, which combines laughter, adorableness and the confidence to reveal herself.
