This week we visit a personal dramaland plight of mine — but I’m sure I’m not alone. (Or at least, I hope I’m not.) What we’re digging into is what I’m dubbing the finale freeze: a drama you’ve been happily watching is approaching its finale week, and… all of a sudden you stop watching. It’s not because you didn’t enjoy the penultimate week’s episodes, it’s not because you were spoiled for the ending, and it’s not because you don’t care about the characters and seeing their happily ever after.
So, what’s the reason? On a few occasions, it could be because you love the drama so much you don’t want to think of it as “over,” and skipping the finale week and leaving the story frozen in space seems a better option. Other times, though, there’s absolutely no rational explanation, and the drama just goes to live on the so-close-to-finishing-it’s-as-if-I-did pile.
Do you ever experience the finale freeze? What’s the drama(s) you froze, and why?
