Team Dramabeans: What We’re Watching – April 29, 2024

So, what are we all watching this week?

What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in…

Lookout: Okay, I’m still early on in the plot and I’m trying not to overthink this, but it’s like Lee Shi-young is the hands and feet of the operation already… how did they get anything done without her? Will this be revealed?? (Also, Key. Acting not so great; hair, fashion, and energy level 10/10.)

The Secret Romantic Guesthouse: Shi-yeol! So much Shi-yeol!! It’s finally his turn in the spotlight, and I am one very happy camper. His inadvertent-but-totally-necessary third-wheeling was downright hilarious, and it’s adorable how he’s basically the fanclub president for our OTP. I was worried that this week’s reveal would drastically change the dynamic between him and San, but of course, nothing can stand in the way of Shi-yeol’s gremlin mischief. This show is my weekly happy pill, and I love how clever and consistent it’s been with its pacing. Shi-yeol’s tragic backstory has been hinted at all along — making it all the more heartbreaking when we finally understand the full extent of his loyal devotion, despite never having the luxury to choose the path he walks on. He’s a person that shines so brightly in the light of day, and I hope he’ll eventually be able to step out of the shadows and live for himself. (You hear that, Show? Give Shi-yeol his happiness, or else!)

Confession: I’m liking this but I’m not totally sure why. It’s a good thing it spoon-feeds the audience every detail because when I stop and think about it for myself, there are plenty of holes. It definitely feels more soapy than the dramas I usually watch, but you know, I always stick around for Junho.

Lookout: I’m finally getting back to this after some time away, and I feel ready to binge. First, Kim Seul-gi showed up — I love her and I totally forgot she was in this. Second, I’m not sure how I got into a string of revenge shows lately, but now that I’m in the mood for it, bring it on! Also, Kim Young-kwang: suits, hair, dual identity — you get it.

Seojin’s Korean Street Food: I will be watching the finale this weekend — and then I’ll need to find something else to accompany me while I cook.
