- Daylight stabbing
There’s this drama where the ending is a guy getting stabbed at an intersection. I think he was shielding the heroine? After he’s stabbed, they walk away from each other. I just remember laughing that no one else in that busy road noticed that someone was stabbed.
- Train trip of youth
A man gets out of jail and he takes his young son on a train trip to meet his first love. His first love is now a mom of two, and they get married and create a big, blended family. But sadly, the man dies, then his wife dies on a bus. The young son then has to take care of his baby sister and two young step-siblings.
- Goodbye double bed, hello single beds
There’s this long-running drama where a husband and wife, after years of sleeping together in the same bed, decided to trade their double bed for two single beds so they can sleep separately in the same room. Does anyone remember which drama it was and who came up with the idea to split beds?
- Labor union vest switcheroo
I remember in this drama the main character meets a friend who is the leader of a union protesting against their employer. The main character is fascinated by his friend’s union leader’s vest and tries it on. But he gets mistaken as the union leader by the employer’s agents who bribe him with a whole lot of money to call off the protest. A lot of confusion ensues later as the union claims to have not received the bribe and the money is missing.
- A family affair
I watched this drama when I taught English in South Korea around 1997 or 1998. But the drama was probably even older than that. It was long running, maybe over 100 episodes?
I missed the first episode, but the main character broke up with her handsome, successful boyfriend/fiance because he wanted a stay-at-home wife. She then married an unattractive nerd who lived with his family in a traditional Korean house. He was fine with letting her keep her career–his family was not fine with her not helping around the house. Her new sister-in-law ended up meeting and marrying her ex. At some point, after she had a child, the family made them move out.
Thanks for playing, everyone — till next time!
