Our weary and heartsick architect just can’t seem to let go of his past, no matter how hard he tries. His life back then almost seems like a dream, with everyone telling him to get back to reality. But his vacation romance was all-too real, and one fateful encounter is sure to prove that.
EPISODES 6-7 WEECAP
We jump into the topic of partners having friends of the opposite sex — and surprise, surprise, Jae-won voices that he’s not cool with that. I, for one, think men and women can have strong relationships without being romantic, as does Geon. In fact, he and Eun-oh have been best buds since they were kids, which is why they’re roommates now.
Of course, that doesn’t mean friendship can never lead to romance. Rin-yi and Kyung-joon started out as friends, though Kyung-joon was clearly crushing on her for years. (Kyung-joon following Rin-yi on blind dates to provide approval? Adorbs.) It wasn’t until he returned from military service that he finally asked her out.
Jae-won scoffs that Kyung-joon wasted so many years trying to win over a girl, and Kyung-joon retorts that Jae-won himself is suffering over a two-month fling. Ouch, he’s got you there.
I actually really like this dynamic with Eun-oh and Geon; they’re very much like bickering siblings. As Eun-oh is trying to attack Geon for messing up her work, Geon tells Director-nim that Eun-oh got more aggressive after her last vacation.
The duo is also friendly with Rin-yi and Kyung-joon, which… Ohhh, okay. So this was Eun-oh’s second reason for breaking it off with Jae-won. She reveals that her friends have no idea that she’s the Yoon Sun-ah from Jae-won’s love story.
While the four of them have game night at Eun-oh’s place, Jae-won gets a call from a friend. The friend informs him that a woman came into his studio to develop photos and that he noticed Jae-won in them. Finally, some progress here!
After Jae-won sees his friend at the studio, he calls Kyung-joon, who invites him over to play with them. Eun-oh panics and tries to make a quick escape, but she ends up running right into Jae-won’s car. She bolts in the other direction, with him jumping out to chase after her. Really, though? Do you have to go this far to hide from him? I get that you’re scared, but aghhh.
Eun-oh manages to get away, and to her relief, she overhears Jae-won calling Kyung-joon back to say he can’t make it. Once she’s back home, she tells Director-nim that the real reason she kept Jae-won’s cameras was because she found out he was related to Kyung-joon. And if Jae-won ever showed his cousin the photos, her cover would’ve been blown.
In the next episode, Minho continues his cameo, and we learn that he’s a police officer who’s very familiar with Jae-won. Apparently, Jae-won’s been to the police station quite a few times, drunkenly ranting about Yoon Sun-ah. And as Jae-won cries his woes now, for seeing Sun-ah in the street, Sun-young is off to the side also drunk.
By morning, Eun-oh and friends are having breakfast and a mini dance session, when Kyung-joon gets a call to pick up Jae-won from the station. After doing so, Kyung-joon rightfully confiscates all of Jae-won’s liquor. Hopefully, Minho and his fellow officers can finally have some peace.
Tired of it all, Jae-won takes his surfboard out of his closet with the intentions of throwing it out. At the same time, Eun-oh takes her board out as well. For a moment, it seems like they might cross paths on the street, but no, this drama wants us to suffer a bit longer.
Though Jae-won wants to forget his Sun-ah, the memories are too much for him, and he figures he can toss the board another time. Eun-oh has difficulty letting go of her board too, but in the end, she forces herself to give it away. She just tells herself that, like the rain, her sad memories will also pass.
Later, Jae-won suddenly remembers the blackbox in his car — meaning if he really saw Sun-ah last night, it’ll be on film. He drags Kyung-joon back to where he parked in Eun-oh’s neighborhood, but it’s already been towed (after Eun-oh reported it). We end with the boys finding the car… and the blackbox.
Now please, please tell me they’re going to discover the truth. Because I’m tired of Jae-won being a sad sack all the time, and I’m tired of Eun-oh knowing this and ignoring it.
Jae-won’s whining has been getting on my nerves, but the longer this drags out, I’m more upset with Eun-oh’s deception. Jae-won’s heartbreak is practically killing him, and the only person he has (Kyung-joon) isn’t taking him seriously. It was this week that he seemed truly alone, especially when comparing him to Eun-oh with her friends.
At this point, I don’t even know if I want some of these couples together. Kyung-joon and Rin-yi are great, but the others are bordering on toxic. Like, it’s ridiculous that Sun-young (who I wanted to like) broke up with Geon simply because he has two female friends. I find so much in this show ridiculous, but I still want to see the fallout. I deserve to see it, dammit.
