Currently weecapping: Dal-li and Gamjatang
Would You Like a Cup of Coffee: I enjoyed Episode 3 of the drama, and Go-bi’s passive-aggressive irritation at the coffee shop’s new patron that turns the place into his office. It was sweet. But at the same time, it’s so early in the game, I want more Go-bi, and more about the characters we met for the first time last week. Are we already done with Go-bi’s story? Because I want to know more about him, his family, what his coffee-driven plans are, etc.!

Dal-li and Gamjatang: I love that Dal-li takes as much initiative (if not more) as Moo-hak in their relationship. Most drama heroines who are quiet and reserved like her are construed as passive or insecure, so it’s a refreshing change of pace. On another note, I am so ready to see Tae-jin taken down. I need him to lose everything and then have to work in a gamjatang shop to make ends meet.
Jirisan: I’m curious but not hooked yet. I do love the gorgeous mountain setting; it’s always nice to have a drama set outside of Seoul. I’m not loving the constant jumping back and forth between timelines, but I’m hoping that will smooth out a bit as we go.

Currently recapping: Inspector Koo
The King’s Affection: Man oh man! When that pompous prick chopped off our sweet Court Lady Kim’s hair, I was ready to climb through the TV and cut him a new belly button. Thankfully, our Lady Prince ignored the potential consequences and beat the (not-so) ugly off his face for me. If there was ever a moment for her to start carving her own path as the Crown Prince, that was it. The intense scenes definitely had me hyped up this week, so in comparison I was a little bored with all the love triangle stuff. I personally feel there’s enough palace intrigue to keep the plot moving without the inclusion of secondary love interests, but the preview for next week hints that our Lady Prince’s search for a wife is going to cause our love triangles to become even more tangled. So maybe the ensuing hijinks will change my mind.
Dal-li and Gamjatang: Still enjoying this adorable couple, but I’m growing more and more annoyed with Moo-hak’s family and Dal-li’s cousin. I find stupid, incompetent characters who think they know better the protagonist very irksome, so I kind of breathe a sigh of relief when the baddie Tae-jin shows up on screen. He’s definitely more evil than the others, but at least he has the cunning and intelligence to back it up.
Chimera: Park Hae-soo has been on my “Actors to Watch” list since Prison Playbook, so I knew when this drama was announced that I would at least give it a try. I didn’t have the time to watch both of this week’s episodes, but I’m intrigued so far. There’s a slight chance I might put this one on hold until I’m done recapping Inspector Koo, though. Not sure how many serial killer shows I want to watch at once.
Mr. Sunshine: Well, this must be the week for me to watch men abuse women by forcefully cutting their hair off. I completely forgot during my rewatch that Dong-mae cuts Ae-shin’s braid at the end of Episode 18. I spent the first part of the episode being invested in his recovery, and then he had to go be a total douche canoe. My first time watching Mr. Sunshine, I found Dong-mae compelling but mostly unlikeable because his badboy sexiness and occasional moments of goodness couldn’t undo all the harm and abuse he’d inflicted on others. This time around, having seen Yoo Yeon-sook in more dramas, my attitude towards his Mr. Sunshine character has softened. So my reaction to the end of episode 18 was less murderous and more, “Noooo! Doctor Ahn Jung-won! What are you doing?!”
