So, what are we all watching this week?
What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in…

Squid Game: The drama is very well-produced but I’m not quite hooked yet for some reason. Maybe it’s because the characters are interesting enough, but I’m still more intrigued by who is orchestrating this elaborate game and why. It’s impressive how willing Lee Jung-jae was to let himself go for his role; it works so well for the character and he is wonderfully pathetic here. I’m just two episodes in but I’m already hoping I won’t have to say goodbye to him, at least not to soon. I’m expecting to have my heart broken shortly though…isn’t that always the way when it’s a game of survival?

Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha: I’m enjoying this drama quite a bit, though I admit I have a love/hate relationship with the fact that it’s really about nothing. What has happened besides random village events that throw our upcoming couple together? At the same time, I’m not against a drama that’s just about people and food and fishing and random dance competitions and brown-outs.

Lovers of the Red Sky: Kim Yoo-jung and Ahn Hyo-seop have good chemistry, and I like them together, but I do wish the drama hadn’t gone all in on the childhood romance angle. Why couldn’t they have just had a meaningful friendship which turned romantic when they reconnected as adults? It makes the romance feel a bit manufactured since I have a hard time buying a crush between 9-year-olds who knew each other for ONE day holds such sway almost 20 years later. Just saying its fate feels like a cop out.
Hospital Playlist 2: And we say goodbye again to our wonderful doctor quintet. While I enjoyed this season, I don’t think it was as strong as the first. Did we really have to pair everyone up by the end? I’m way more invested in the friendships than the romances here, but I kind of figured this would happen since dramas are rarely willing to let main characters be single.
