If you’re anything like me (read: a drama fanatic) you’re probably also guilty of measuring time by dramas. So, when I look back on the summer, it’s half remembered by the shows that aired, the feels they gave, and sometimes, the disappointments they’ve made us suffer. Regardless, it’s already September, and we’ve got a nice clean slate in front of us — just in time for some Beanie Origins stories, some updates, and some drama squees. (*Ahem* the header image of this article. )

Beanie Origins: Poliwag’s Story

A long time ago (circa 2014-15, which is about the length of a K-drama time skip), a tadpole-shaped seed was buried in the vast K-drama fangirl fields of Dramabeans and sprouted into the Poliwag you see today with enough fangirl tears.
Being a struggling student with little interest in my then field of choice, my only solace was reading reviews for dramas on DB, anything I could get my hands on. Eventually, I made the decision to start commenting in early 2015, trying to join in with the “cool kids” at the time who were also doing the same- at that time, you didn’t even have DB accounts! You were just Guest Beanie, Poliwag, and that was also around the time where I started duking it out with people in the comments section because I was just that deeply opinionated about everything.
Six years flew by and I’m now a working adult still watching K-dramas, specifically Forest of Secrets 2 (big love) and I don’t know if I would’ve wanted it any other way.

I just wanted to thank you all for creating this website, maintaining this website, and for the purpose of this website. Your website is a huge valuable resource to me, a Ukrainian-American who speaks absolutely no Korean. During the COVID lockdown, someone from work suggested K-dramas as something to do. I was watching them for entertainment, but when I got to Secret Garden, there was something that really stuck in my head about Ra-im’s purse that I kept pondering over and over.
My friend couldn’t explain, so I took the internet and found your website which not only explained it, but I realized the recaps and translations were exactly what I needed to understand any show (since some of the show’s English subtitles didn’t exactly convey an accurate translation). I now use your website for all the K-dramas that I watch.
