So, what are we all watching this week?
What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in…

Memorials: Gu Se-ra is such a great protagonist. I was worried we’d see her personality get watered down a bit after becoming a full-fledged politician, so it’s gratifying to see her keep her passion and weirdness intact while she gets down to business. The writing is wonderful and the relationship between all the characters is what keeps drawing me back. In particular, the development of the feelings between Se-ra and Gong-myung has been fun to watch. And I can’t get enough of the slow-mo stare, head tilt shots we keep getting, and the moony looks Se-ra throws Gong-myung’s way.

My Unfamiliar Family: What a gem of a show! The last episode was full of regret yet so warm, heartbreaking yet uplifting without making the conflicting emotions feel jarring. Unlike the odd black-out transitions that I always found a bit abrupt, the story seamlessly transitioned from one perspective to the other — from Mom to Dad, from Eun-hee to Chan-hyuk, from children to parents. I was so satisfied with the story, and it didn’t occur to me until after the show that the same writer was behind Flower Boy Next Door. It makes complete sense why I loved this show.
It’s Okay to Not Be Okay: The brothers! My heart completely shattered when Sang-tae and Kang-tae pleaded to each other not to abandon the other. It’s going to take some trial and error and overcorrecting to figure out how to make space for Moon-young, and I’m bracing myself for more heartbreaking brotherly love.
Summer Vacation: Na PD strikes again with another perfect show about doing a lot of nothing. He’s figured out how to make the mundane into entertaining content, and his brand is thriving. I love the sibling-like comfort between Jung Yumi and Choi Woo-shik, and Park Seo-joon adds some sparkle to their humble, clumsy, and lazy summer vacation life, which is everything I need and want right now.

It’s Okay to Not Be Okay: Well, things really came to a head this week. Right when Kang-tae tries to be a teensy bit selfish, everything goes to hell. Although it was brutal, I think it is ultimately a good thing that the whole almost-drowning incident was addressed between the brothers. They needed to work out their resentments so they can move forward. That said, I’m ready to dial down the angst for next week.
Train: I’m generally tired of cop and serial killer shows, but the parallel universe aspect adds enough of a twist to keep me interested, for now. I’m most curious to learn more about Do-won’s counterpart and his life in the parallel world.
United Effort to Accomplish One Thing: Ooh, this is fun! I love the cheeky tone and the Clue-esque whodunit. It’s got just the right balance of comedy and intrigue. I like how the story is being told partially through interviews, like in Knives Out. My main hope is that it stays fun throughout and doesn’t turn too serious. I’m here for the (often bad) scheming and antics of this ridiculous family.
