With the broadcast interrupted, the team will have to make it up to the viewers by apologizing and working harder to create interesting content. Our couple experiences some uncomfortable moments and it’s important that they are addressed and not avoided. Meanwhile, the lovable neighborhood friend takes action, hoping to find closure before he moves on.
EPISODE 21 RECAP
Before Do-hee can explain herself, Hae-kyung praises her for doing the right thing earlier with Jae-hyuk. Because of her quick response, the situation wasn’t too bad. “You’re better than me, who’s a doctor. Well done,” he grins, patting her on the back. He’s too sweet, aghhh!
She thanks him and is visibly more comfortable now, but Hae-kyung adds, “But the next time you get shocked and flustered because of a situation, I want you to hold only my hands.” Do-hee’s confused, certain that she didn’t hold Jae-hyuk’s hand, so Hae-kyung drops it and cutely feeds her instead.
Meanwhile, Jae-hyuk joins Do-hee’s mom for dinner and she invites him to join her for meals more often. When Mom confirms that there’s nothing going on between him and No-eul, Jae-hyuk tells her that although Do-hee is still his everything, she’s moved on completely so he’ll try to get over her too.
Mom says she knows Do-hee best and seeing how she reacted today, she’s sure that Do-hee’s just angry. Playing the part of the sweet ex, Jae-hyuk claims, “I just want to do what Do-hee wants to do.”
At home, Hae-kyung recalls how Do-hee had offered to quit the show if he’s uncomfortable with it, wanting to be responsible for their relationship. Hae-kyung had truthfully told her that it’s uncomfortable, but he doesn’t want her to give up anything for his sake. She’d called him cool but now at home, Hae-kyung grumbles that he should’ve just told her not to do it.
The next morning, Jae-hyuk tries to catch Do-hee in her neighborhood but she zooms off happily without seeing him to say hi to Keanu. He’s shaken to see his former doctor there, reminded of how Keanu had once told him that he’d made a lot of progress thanks to his girlfriend.
Do-hee arrives at work expecting Have My Heart to be axed, but instead, their team has clinched the company’s first ever PPL offer. They’re to post an apology and upload a special vlog to show off their teamwork. The product? A resort house and survival game. “It’s best to show what you’ve got when you receive criticism,” Ah-young declares.
After work, Ah-young spots a well-groomed Keanu across the street and shyly (but giddily) makes her way towards him. He asks her out to dinner and she replies that she already has plans…with Keanu, hee.
It’s samgyupsal time! Keanu vaguely answers that he used to listen to people’s stories and talk to them, and Ah-young muses that it’s exactly what he’s doing right now. Keanu chokes on the wrap that she makes him when she suddenly asks him to live with her.
He makes her a wrap in return and a few bottles of soju later, Ah-young drunkenly asks, “Why can’t you live with me right now? What on earth happened to you? I wouldn’t mind taking in every ounce of your history.”
Keanu smiles and tells Ah-young that he’ll join her when he ties up loose ends and finds closure for his resentful heart. He promises that he’ll live with her and they share a sweet kiss. They’re so adorably happy, it makes me anxious that something bad will happen. We must protect Ajusshi!
The Have My Heart team (sans Hae-kyung) are led towards the resort by Ah-young until she doubles over, nauseous from her hangover. Do-hee’s surprised by Hae-kyung’s arrival, but their smiles fall when No-eul links arms with him. She claims that with Hae-kyung here, they’ll be even-numbered for games, but is thwarted when it turns out Byung-jin tagged along.
Everyone puts their game faces on as they don themselves with war paint (Jae-hyuk’s looks exactly like The Joker’s smile). On the Blue Team, we have Do-hee, Ah-young, Geon-woo, Byung-jin, and Jin-kyu. The Black Team consists of Hae-kyung, Jae-hyuk, No-eul, So-ra, and Jung-hwan.
The paintball battle gets pretty intense and chaotic. Jin-kyu’s always stuck in the open constantly yelling at his teammates, “Cover me!” There’s also Byung-jin who’s hilariously on the hunt for Hae-kyung, and Ah-young slooooowly cartwheels her way through the battlefield, LOL.
The first kill of the game is credited to Byung-jin, who sneakily gets Jung-hwan. So-ra charms up Jin-kyu pretending that she’s always had a thing for him, then promptly shoots him down, leaving him with butterflies in his stomach. It becomes 3-on-3 when So-ra and Byung-jin shoot each other simultaneously.
Hae-kyung and Jae-hyuk work pretty well together but when Do-hee slips, Hae-kyung secretly shoots Jae-hyuk’s gun, causing him to miss and hit Geon-woo instead of Do-hee. HA, Do-hee goes on a rampage with two guns in her hands until she’s caught between her boyfriend and ex-lover.
Jae-hyuk’s moment of hesitation allows Hae-kyung to “accidentally miss” and shoot Jae-hyuk right in the face, giving the most disingenuous apology I’ve ever heard, hee. Feeling like a hero, he’s captivated by Do-hee’s wink and stutters in confusion when she sneaks an attack then appeases him with a finger heart.
It’s No-eul vs. Do-hee in a one-on-one battle, and No-eul lands the first shot. She continues to charge forward and repeatedly shoots Do-hee, declaring that she’ll never lose. She’s so wrapped up in her vengeance that she’d forgotten about Ah-young, who expertly shoots her square in the chest and leads Blue to victory. (Ah-young: “How dare she? MWAHAHA!”)
EPISODE 22 RECAP
The crew prepares lunch and Jin-kyu asks Hae-kyung to check on No-eul, who scratched her foot during the game. Although Do-hee doesn’t seem thrilled about it, she doesn’t follow him out.
Outside, Geon-woo asks if Jae-hyuk really isn’t going to return home. “It’s not like I can go back to that house anytime I want,” Jae-hyuk replies. Geon-woo notes that he seems a bit more relaxed these days and asks if he has finally moved on. “I’m working on it,” is all Jae-hyuk says.
Hae-kyung approaches No-eul with the first aid kit but when she says, “Oppa,” he turns to leave. She calls after him, “Did you really love me?” Hae-kyung answers that he did, so she pushes even further, wanting to know how much he loved her.
Hae-kyung looks her straight in the eyes and says, “I loved you a lot, was hurt badly, had a hard time for a long time, and have completely recovered now.” No-eul is saddened to hear that he’s fine now and leans into his chest, where he allows her to cry her heart out. “You’ll be fine too,” he promises.
With No-eul in his arms, Hae-kyung suddenly realizes that they have an audience – Do-hee. The couple stare at one another wordlessly until Do-hee turns to head back inside, but Hae-kyung doesn’t budge from his spot. After sending Hae-kyung and Byung-jin home, So-ra congratulates Do-hee on her relationship. So-ra has a feeling that he’s the one, but Do-hee covers her mouth. “Your gut feelings are never right!”
They’re interrupted by Jae-hyuk who pulls Do-hee aside to thank her for saving him. Do-hee apologizes for not getting rid of the cake sooner. Worried that she might catch a cold, Jae-hyuk wraps her in his jacket but she takes it off immediately and heads inside.
Hae-kyung finally tells her that he doesn’t like it when she’s alone with Jae-hyuk, not because he doesn’t trust her, but because that’s just how he feels. “I want to know every little detail about you, and I want to explain everything about me,” he says. Do-hee smiles in understanding and tells him to go ahead.
“I love you,” he tells her, realizing that he hasn’t said those words yet. It’s corny and serious, but it’s also the only explanation for why he’s like this right now. “So Do-hee, please trust me,” Hae-kyung pleads. Do-hee looks at him with such a calm expression of love and happiness, reassuring Hae-kyung that she does trust him.
He knows that nobody can erase the past, promising instead to make the best of the present. Hae-kyung steadies Do-hee and slowly leans in for a soft kiss. When their lips part, he comments, “You drank alcohol.” Do-hee fake-cries, “You weren’t with me, so I was sad.” PFFT. He chuckles, amused as always, and goes in for a longer, deeper kiss than the last.
The couple walk hand-in-hand and Hae-kyung asks if she’d like to see a movie with him tomorrow. Do-hee isn’t really feeling the movies since there isn’t anything interesting out – she’s into the classics. Hae-kyung quickly shares that he has tons of classic DVDs at home…and has to backtrack, “Please don’t get me wrong, I didn’t mean anything like that.” He’s such a goner, he can’t help looking back at her and ends up hitting his head on his car, pfft.
The next day, Keanu confronts Jae-hyuk on the streets. Back when the scandal broke out, Keanu had called him in a panic asking to talk, but Jae-hyuk had refused. Keanu became agitated and had yelled, “You know it’s not my fault. How could you do this to me?”
Seeing Keanu’s grim expression now, Jae-hyuk tosses his bag and makes a run for it. A chase ensues but Jae-hyuk gets cornered when he nearly gets hit by a car, tumbling onto the ground. The two end up at a café and Keanu tells Jae-hyuk that for years, he’d wondered what thoughts would go through his mind if he ever ran into him again. “Now that I’ve met you, I feel like I’ve wasted my life.”
COMMENTS
Show seems to want us to believe that the intruder is Keanu because of the outfit, but it’s fairly obvious that it’s actually Jae-hyuk. We know that he trespassed at least once already (it’s how he got Hae-kyung’s business card) so it’s not surprising that he has Do-hee’s door lock password. He’s totally unhinged now after being so shaken up by his meeting with Keanu. He somehow disillusioned himself into thinking that him being respected by his family is more important than a man’s life. He doesn’t know right from wrong, and with each passing episode, Jae-hyuk is more and more of a mess. He’d better restore our favorite Ajusshi’s reputation or else he’ll have a lot of people to answer to.
I found it interesting that he drew The Joker’s smile on himself during the paintball sequence. We know that The Joker is infamous for being a brilliant criminal. He’s clever and thinks up elaborate plans, but is also able to adapt to ever-changing situations. Now, I’m not saying that Jae-hyuk is on the level of The Joker, but I can see some similarities. He’s super manipulative and will go to any length to get Do-hee’s attention, even if it means sacrificing his own body. That one time Do-hee saved No-eul from the light, he acted quickly enough to play the part of her savior. This time, he used Do-hee’s mistake in forgetting his allergy as another ploy to get her attention. The ease in which he tells his lies is scary, because I think he truly believes in them. He’s slowly breaking down the more he realizes that he’s lost Do-hee for good, and I worry for his mental health. Do-hee’s mom also needs to stop meddling. She doesn’t have any right to be contacting her ex-boyfriend, especially since Do-hee herself has expressed many times that it’s over. I’m so over everyone saying that they know her best!
To quote Geon-woo from last week: “Unwanted love isn’t real love.” Jae-hyuk and No-eul need to get a grip and MOVE ON. I understand why Jae-hyuk is having a hard time doing so, but we’re nearing the end of the show’s run and I still don’t understand No-eul’s motivations beyond her self entitlement. We never really explored why she does the things that she does, and it seems that she truly just exists to annoy the viewers to their wits’ end. The fact that she has the audacity to act like Hae-kyung isn’t already in a relationship, as if she still has a chance, is beyond my comprehension. “Bleh,” is my general attitude towards her.
I’ve missed seeing Hae-kyung and Do-hee joking around and they’ve amped up the cuteness now that they’re in a relationship. I love that it’s not all fun and games for them, and they show that they are mature enough to handle conflicts with tact and respect for one another. Most other dramas would’ve used Hae-kyung hugging No-eul or Do-hee worrying about Jae-hyuk as devices to start arguments, but not for this couple! They don’t need their partner to explain themselves because they trust in their love. But they try to explain and make sure the other person isn’t uncomfortable with the situation anyways, and actually engage in conversations. As of right now though, I feel like Do-hee is still pretty cautious for the most part whereas Hae-kyung is taking most of the initiative in starting these important conversations. Do-hee doesn’t shy away from it when he opens up the floor to talk about their issues, but she never brings things up first. I hope she’ll feel comfortable enough to rely on Hae-kyung fully, because it’s so obvious that he’s going to be there to support and lift her up. The sparks are still flying between this couple and I’m still praying to those Drama Gods that they’ll wrap up the exes’ storylines so that we can get back to fawning over our adorable dinner mates.
