My avatar is from The Genius, which for my money is not just the greatest variety show of all time, but might be the greatest TV show period. It’s sooooo good. Everyone should watch it. You’ll be hooked by the end of episode 1.

What is the first drama that you watched (or the first drama that made an impression)?

It all started with You’re the Best, Lee Soon-shin, which is a pretty terrible starting drama given all the excellent choices out there. Still, it managed to sink its teeth into me. I sunk 18 hours into it on the day I found it just to catch up and then started watching the episodes live as they aired without subtitles. I was a fiend. It doesn’t help that I was a bit obsessed with IU. I say was like I’m not still obsessed.

Name a job or two that you’ve had in the past.

I used to play poker professionally. As much as I like to tell stories about the adrenaline of high-risk decision-making it was mostly sitting around doing nothing for a large period of time. Especially if you played live, you might go hours without playing a hand. It required an insane amount of patience.

What’s your favorite drama you recapped?

Probably Rescue Me. I’m a sucker for the super dark thrillers so I was naturally on board with it from the start. The atmosphere was perfect throughout. It oozed dread from every fiber of its being.

What drama genres do you especially like?

Thrillers for sure, though generally the darker ones are more substantive which is what I’m most interested in.

What drama genres do you especially dislike?

I just can never get into sageuks. I’ve tried countless times whenever a new popular sageuk hits the air and they just never stick.

Is there a drama character you’ve ever strongly identified with, and why?

Jang Geu-rae from Misaeng quit playing a game he loved to try to make it in the regular working world. When I first started at a real job I felt like I basically turned into him.

What drama character would you want to be?

So, I mean other than the threat of crippling debt for losing, put me in Liar Game as Cha Woo-jin. I would enjoy the challenge of the actual games so much.

What’s a random skill you have?

I used to be top 300 on the North American ladder in Hearthstone. I spent way too much time playing that game, don’t do that to yourself.

My drama-related skill is whenever I’m recapping a show as a duo with someone I literally always get randomly assigned every single episode with a broody shower scene. My apologies to my partners as I know I am depriving them of great joy.

Favorite non-Korean movie and/or TV show?

The Wire is one of the few non-Korean shows I’ve taken the time to dive into and it’s absolutely brilliant. Every season is fantastic but don’t let anyone trick you into thinking season 2 isn’t the best.

Which Hallyu celebrity would you actually want to meet and spend an hour with?

Well, as I said, I definitely am not obsessed with IU, so I don’t know why you’re trying to entrap me with this question.

Your favorite drama has an unholy alliance with your most hated drama and produces a mutant baby drama. Describe the plot.

You’re forcing me to mash Misaeng and Pretty Man together? You monsters. I guess it’s the story of a guy with obnoxiously terrible hair trying to seduce a bunch of regular office workers so he can unlock the secret of his birth? Look what you’ve done. Shameful.
