Sweet Munchies: It’s official, I’m basically still watching for Tae-wan. It’s not that Sweet Munchies is bad, it’s just that there are so many plot points that don’t make sense or that I don’t particularly care about. Seriously, if we’re going to focus on the supporting cast, I’d much rather see more of Jin-sung’s little brother Jin-woo than a loveline between an annoying assistant PD and a writer. Actually, scratch that, can we just get more Tae-wan? It feels like the PD and writer were brave enough to start a conversation on a topic, but not brave enough to make the protagonist gay. Jin-sung and Tae-wan have so much chemistry together; whenever they’re onscreen I can’t help but wonder about the what ifs.
Three Meals a Day: Having Lee Kwang-soo visit the island felt like a variety crossover made in heaven. Sure, it wasn’t an official crossover episode, but he’s such a Running Man fixture that it feels weird seeing him on a non-Yoo Jae-suk show. I wish he’d stayed a little longer, if only to see a little more of the budding maknae rivalry between him and Ho-joon.

Currently recapping: Oh My Baby
Hospital Playlist: I held off on watching the last episode because I didn’t want to let this one go, and I’m sad it’s done! Where will I get my weekly dose of Ik-joon’s hijinks and remake soundtracks? I adore this cast, and I love how warm this show was — a much needed oasis during this hell of a year. I need this next season to come faster because I’m nervous about the commitment to the season format (please don’t drop out of the cast, anyone!) and I’m ready for 2020 to be over. Until 2024, bye bye! (*in Woo-joo’s voice*)
My Unfamiliar Family: I like! I haven’t seen a family-centered drama in a while, and I’m enjoying the larger cast of characters. The sibling and family dynamics are relatable, and I find the overarching theme of unfamiliarity in the context of family interesting and entertaining. I’m curious to see if Kim Ji-suk’s character is more friend, family, or lover, though I’m rooting for the friends to lovers trajectory for him.
The King: Eternal Monarch: I’m… confused. I never understood the time/world travel rules, though maybe I never tried to make sense of it. I found Gon’s search for Tae-eul in the different worlds and their world travel humorous, and I wish we could have milked more entertainment out of the alternate universes. Universe logic aside, this was a beautifully-shot show with a beautiful cast. At least it was beautiful confusion.

The King: Eternal Monarch: Well, boo. I’m legit sad this is over. I had so much fun watching this — making up theories, pausing every ten minutes to give my mom a WTF look — and it’s gonna be weird not having new episodes to look forward to. The drama wasn’t at all what I expected or what I wanted it to be, but once I got used to all the craziness, I really got into it. For instance (was this just me?), I could not stop laughing when Yeong, without warning and without hesitation, snapped someone’s neck. I mean, I hated that someone’s character, but damn, not even a “Bye, ya jerkface”? The little things, y’all. Along with the funnier little things, writer Kim Eun-sook still managed to genuinely affect me with certain moments. No matter how many times I’ve seen them, whether here or in KES’s other dramas, the OTP hugs and bromantic struts get my heart racing. I guess it’s about time my heart (and my brain) got a break.

Currently weecapping: When My Love Blooms
Good Casting: My favorite thing this week was watching Seok-ho and Secretary Byun flail around as they played spy, eavesdropping with paper cups to their ears. The Misadventures of Seok-ho and Secretary Byun could be its own drama where they get into scrapes and wait for Chan-mi to come save them.
Mystic Pop-up Bar: So this one is still meh. It’s a pretty passive watch for me. I enjoy some of the cases and stuff, but I’m not really invested in the plight of the main characters. I’m hoping character development will be a bit stronger in the coming episodes, although I know we’re already two-thirds in.
