Team Dramabeans: What we’re watchingstroopwafelmissvictrixquirkycase – TV Show Reviews

So, what are we all watching this week?

What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in…

Sweet Munchies: This week was a little disappointing for me, and right now I prefer the idea of the show more than I do the show itself. I think it’s because there’s just too much that’s flat out nonsensical. Even the most outlandish plots can be made believable as long as there’s an underlying logic that holds everything together, but there was no logic in one of this week’s major side plots. For instance, that whole “hiding my starring role in a cooking show and my faux-gayness” storyline with Jin-sang and his little brother made no sense. Jin-sang was the literal star of a broadcast TV show pilot, and his face was on camera! It wasn’t “The Masked Chef,” so how on earth did he think he would be able to keep that from his brother? And I usually find Jung Il-woo fun to watch, but he’s so bland and lifeless here. In fact, the one character who’s keeping me invested in the show is Tae-wan. He’s so endearing, and everytime he goes from stern to heart-eyes-flail mode is so sweet and funny.

Currently weecapping: When My Love Blooms

Will You Have Dinner with Me: Here we go with the first love obsession and entitled, can’t-take-no-for-an-answer second leads. The two “first loves” are like nails on a chalkboard for me and are legit angering me. This drama has a very old-fashioned feel but not in a way that I care for, so I’ll be dropping this one.

Mystic Pop-up Bar: I like that the drama doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s a silly romp with a handful of serious moments thrown in and doesn’t pretend to be otherwise. Although, I’m not sure how I feel about Kang-bae’s identity and that whole angle. We’ll see how it all plays out.
