Team Dramabeans: What We’re Watching – Chickachunga, Abirdword, Missvictrix, Quirky Cases, Selena

So, what are we all watching this week?

What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in…

Good Casting: I wish I found the whole “Michael” mystery (of any of the bad guys, really) more interesting. But since I’m here for the antics and less for the spy stuff, it’s not that big of a deal. One thing that is really grating on me, though, is Woo-won’s character. Haven’t we had enough of the spoiled man-child who falls for the sweet, innocent woman? I really like Ye-eun, so I’m upset she’s been paired with this stereotypical, entitled bully who can’t express himself. Maybe it’ll be a one-sided crush, and they won’t force a romance. Yeah … I’m not holding my breath.

Mystic Pop-up Bar: I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the premiere episodes were fun. There’s a definite Hotel del Luna vibe; it’s whimsical and even has a mysterious woman with a dramatic backstory serving out her punishment by helping people. I don’t usually care for Hwang Jung-eum, but her over-the-top style works better here. I hope we get to see more awful people get their comeuppance (like that gross boss) because that was cathartic.

Mystic Pop-up Bar: Ah, fantasy and wacky comedy — should be a recipe for success! Add in Yook Sung-jae, and I’m sold. I am especially loving the rich colors that fill my screen and the score that vaguely reminds me of Harry Potter. The premise of the show has a lot of potential and I’m looking forward to the hi-jinks that our main trio will get up to while trying to fill up the 100,000 people quota. It’d better be the type of feel-good human drama that makes you laugh and cry!
