On Oct 25th, the 11th E Daily Culture Awards took place, honoring artists who have made significant contributions to the performing arts. During the event, NewJeans was recognized with the prestigious “Frontier Prize”, a special award celebrating artists who push boundaries and inspire new directions in their field.
Actor Song Seung Heon introduced the award as being for artists who have demonstrated a pioneering spirit in their work. E Daily praised NewJeans for their impact on K-pop since their debut in 2024, noting that their music has created a new paradigm in the industry.
The five-member group took the stage with their characteristic cheerful energy. Initially, it was announced that Minji would give the acceptance speech, but she passed the microphone to Hyein, explaining that Hyein had prepared for the moment.
However, Hyein seemed a bit surprised and flustered when she realized she had forgotten the group’s usual greeting.
After regaining her composure, Hyein began delivering a heartfelt and emotional speech.
“Doing this work, I realized, ‘Wow, there are such good people out there.’ Personally, I believe that this work is only possible with the support of those around us. I’m deeply grateful to have all these wonderful people, including Bunnies, by my side, creating memories together. This work is truly special.”
As Hyein reflected on recent challenges, including the ongoing tensions between Min Hee Jin and HYBE, she grew emotional while speaking.
“But recently, I learned that it’s… not always possible to keep having these special moments… I’m so sorry for crying again!“
At this point, Minji gently offered to help her finish, but Hyein continued on her own.
“It’s such a blessing to do what we love in front of those who love us… I don’t know why I keep crying! Anyway, the five of us never imagined we’d come together like this. But we did, and now we’re so special to each other. We work hard to keep putting out great performances. We’re thankful to everyone who helps us pursue our dreams. We accept this special gift and promise to continue making music for people to enjoy every day. Thank you.”
A clip of the emotional speech, with the NewJeans members comforting and supporting Hyein, quickly went viral. Fans flooded social media with words of encouragement for the group.
