From Idol to K-pop Consultant: Japan’s Newest Sensation

On May 24, it was announced that Juri, a Japanese member of Woollim girl group Rocket Punch, will leave the group after 5 years. Previously, Juri gained attention as a member of the Japanese idol group AKB48 who appeared in the idol survival program “Produce 48”.

Immediately after news about her departure, Juri updated her Instagram with a post promoting her new “K-pop consulting service”. In particular, Juri claimed that she will provide “international online” support regarding K-pop and K-beauty, aiming towards people who aspire to become K-pop artists.

Netizens who saw the update were pleasantly surprised and even showed support for Juri. Below are some comments from netizens:

  • Wow, are there that many people vying to become a K-pop artist in Japan?
  • Since she has been both a J-pop idol and a K-pop idol, she probably has a lot to say as a mentor
  • That’s really smart of her
  • It seems like there are already quite a few academies like that in Japan, so an experience person like her may work well as a K-pop consultant
  • It seems that she made a good future career choice by taking advantage of her experience
