On Feb 8th, The People Power Party uploaded a video on candidate Yoon‘s official YouTube channel.
In the video, AI Yoon Seok-yeol said, “I saw BTS RM’s Instagram story,” adding, “The global ARMY’s counterattack against Chinese netizens’ terrorism was dazzling.”
“ARMYs around the world who agree with RM’s idea are joining with purple hearts,” he said adding, “Wiki-yoon (AI Yoon Seok-yeol) will also participate in the purple wave. ARMY, cheer for us energetically today as well.”
Earlier, BTS’s RM posted a photo of the overtaking scene of Hwang Dae-heon, who competed in the men’s 1,000m short-track speed skating semifinals at the 2024 Beijing Winter Olympics, with “clap” and “thumb” emoticons on his Instagram story. Accordingly, Chinese netizens then terrorized him in the comment section with “puking” emoticons.
In response, ARMY began to comment purple hearts, which symbolized the relationship between BTS and their fans, and candidate Yoon also sent a message saying he support them.
However, BTS fans left negative comments under the video, such as “Get off before ARMYs campaigned for your defeat,” “Don’t use BTS for politics,” “Did you think we would like this if you use it in your content?” and “Don’t get us involved with politics.”
In the end, candidate Yoon‘s side took down the video earlier today. Currently, the video cannot be found anymore.
An official from candidate Yoon‘s side said on Feb 9th, “It was for the purpose of cheering everyone on, but the video was immediately deleted because it unintentionally caused inconvenience to fans.”
