Recently, netizens discovered that the public Instagram account of NCT’s Taeyong was among the people who liked a recent SNS update of aespa’s Giselle. While this is a harmless action, Taeyong has faced backlash from netizens.
In particular, the post “calling out” Taeyong’s action has attracted over 2 million views, with some comments and quotes speculating the two of dating and condemning Taeyong for the possibility of causing a controversy.
However, most defend Taeyong. According to these people, there’s nothing wrong with liking a post from a fellow artist, especially when they have performed together, are under the same agency (SM Entertainment), and are even fellow ambassadors of luxury brand Loewe.
Some also pointed out that Taeyong also liked various posts from other artists, including a member of Red Velvet, and so his liking Giselle’s post should not lead to dating allegations.
On the other hand, Instagram interactions between idols are often blown out of proportions, leading to unwanted controversies.
In the past, EXO’s Suho confessed that he felt too embarrassed to like BLACKPINK’s Jisoo’s post.
Additionally, when BTS’ V accidentally followed BLACKPINK’s Jennie in the past, dating allegations between the two emerged and a fanwar was even sparked.
