In this next teaser for upcoming Forest of Secrets spin-off Dong-jae, The Good or the Bastard, we get to see our titular prosecutor Lee Jun-hyuk (Vigilante) as he faces off against the shady CEO Park Sung-woong (The Killing Vote).
The teaser starts off by re-introducing us to our prosecutor Seo Dong-jae (Lee Jun-hyuk), as he works hard on an ever-increasing workload of cases. While he was generally known as quite the bribe-taking prosecutor, it’s a label he’s been trying to shake in an effort to make a better name for himself.
However, a wrench is thrown into Dong-jae’s image rehab plans when an old colleague, CEO of Lee Hong Construction Nam Wan-sung (Park Sung-woong), hits him up, presumably for help getting out of a criminal charge. Considering how Wan-sung immediately calls Dong-jae by his old nickname “sponsored prosecutor,” it looks like their old relationship wasn’t all that friendly.
We then cut to what looks the case Wan-sung is trying to weasel out of: the murder of a high school girl. According to Dong-jae, this case is a doozy, involving assault, gangs, drugs, and guns. “It’s not like this is Texas… you’re telling me she was killed by a gun?”
Seeing his chance to rebuild his reputation, Dong-jae goes all in on this case. And while Wan-sung comes groveling back to Dong-jae, promising to make his past mistakes disappear, Dong-jae lets him know he’s past the point of negotiating with the likes of him. But of course, it wouldn’t be Dong-jae if he didn’t immediately sulk over his lost opportunity to make nice with a big corporation in the next scene.
As the case picks up, so do the stakes, and Wan-sung isn’t about to go down without a fight either. The two go back and forth dealing blows and screaming bloody murder in frustration. It looks like however this case will turn out for Dong-jae, he’s a prosecutor “without any happy choices left.”
With scripts written by Hwang Ha-jung and Kim Sang-won and Park Gun-ho directing, TVING’s Dong-jae, the Good or the Bastard will premiere on October 10.
