TVING’s new series Dear X has announced their main lineup, pushing Kim Yoo-jung (Chicken Nugget) and Kim Young-dae (Moon in the Day) to the extreme – all in the name of that thing we call love – in our story’s self-proclaimed “chillingly beautiful melo-thriller.”
Based on the popular and same-titled webtoon, our heroine is actress Baek Ah-jin (Kim Yoo-jung) who hides her true nature behind the mask of Korea’s beloved star. This has been Ah-jin’s survival mechanism, honing manipulative tactics to rise from the bottom dregs and reach the top of A-list fame. But in doing so, she neglected her own inner self – as well as the lingering trauma from her childhood – and now everything she built has started to crumble.
Yoon Jun-seo (Kim Young-dae) believes, though, that loving Ah-jin means saving her and has stuck by Ah-jin’s side to be her shelter – helping her to feel safe while also becoming her one Achilles’ heel. Ever the stalwart and true knight, he’ll to go down to hell if that’s what it takes for ~love~ and come what may, he will be with Ah-jin until the very end.
But it seems our troubled Ah-jin also has an admirer and unconditional aide in second lead Kim Do-hoon (Your Honor) playing Kim Jae-oh. Like Ah-jin, Jae-oh experienced a terrible childhood under an abusive, cult-following father and he finally finds his life purpose in Ah-jin by choosing to become her shadow.
Further complicating things, Lee Yeol-eum (The 8 Show) plays the idol-turned-actor Lena, who has fallen in a one-sided love on Jun-seo. Owing to her good looks – along with good luck’s helping hand – Lena has been enjoying popularity and fame, though she continues to be criticized for lacking talent.
Coming to our screens in 2025, production for TVING’s Dear X has PD Lee Eung-bok (Sweet Home, Mr. Sunshine) and PD Park So-hyun co-directing, along with scripts by Choi Ja-won (No Path Back).
