Han Seok-kyu Betrayed: The Intimate Traitor Scandal

MBC has released the first teaser for its upcoming mystery thriller The Intimate Traitor (working title). The show stars Han Seok-kyu (Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim 3) as criminal profiler Jang Tae-soo who faces a life-shattering truth while searching for answers.

Opening to an eerie soundtrack and a creaking door, the text on screen reads, “No one can know that my daughter is a murderer.” The teaser immediately introduces the crux of Tae-soo’s problem and slowly reveals his trust wavering as the days go by. Whether at work or driving his car, Tae-soo looks conflicted, and those around him notice his strange behavior.

The teaser reflects two people walking — most likely this tense father and daughter pair— but while her steps turn into a run stopped by traffic, his come to halt inside a corridor. The camera then focuses on a bleeding hand, but it only leaves more questions in its wake as Tae-soo wishes for no one to find out.

Tae-soo’s daughter Jang Ha-bin played by Chae Won-bin (Sweet Home 3) stares ahead with a blank expression and asks her father if he suspects her right now. As if responding to her question, he lets out a shuddered sigh, and the scene cuts to black.

The premise sounds different from the usual fare, and in particular, the focus on a father-daughter relationship where the daughter may be the criminal sounds intriguing. Despite its short length, the teaser conveyed the tense atmosphere well and captured the internal conflict raging within Tae-soo. Plus, with Han Seok-kyu as one of the leads, the show is sure to be a riveting watch.

Written by newcomer Han Ah-young who won the Excellence Award in MBC’s 2024 script writing contest and directed by PD Song Yeon-hwa (Wild Boar Hunting), MBC’s The Intimate Traitor is slated for ten episodes and plans to premiere early October of this year.
