Reporter Kim Hye-soo Exposes Baddies Unmasked in Latest Promos

How far will you go to cover a story? In the teaser and poster for Disney+ upcoming crime-comedy Unmasked, Kim Hye-soo (Under the Queen’s Umbrella) shows us why she’s the reigning queen of the mystery-crime genre.

As the face of the #1 investigative crime reporting show “Trigger,” Oh So-ryong (Kim Hye-soo) will do whatever it takes to get to the truth. From running into burning buildings to daring gunmen to shoot her — what some might call insane, she calls commitment to her viewers.

So-ryong’s tenacity has served her well over the years, especially since her job entails her and her assistant director Kang Gi-ho, played by Joo Jong-hyuk (Frankly Speaking), to constantly throw themselves into the line of fire to collect evidence against criminals. So-ryong sums up their ethos in the voiceover: “Do whatever it takes to get the shot, even if you have to risk your life.”

It’s in this pressure-cooker of a job that the Trigger team welcomes their newest rookie Han Do, played by Jung Sung-il (The Glory). While he’s not as much of a fan of the company culture (“This is one sadistic work environment”), he eventually learns to throw himself into his job quite literally, such as when he’s being dragged away by a runaway paraglider or building security. And despite his initial misgivings, it’s very adorable to see him and So-ryong start to have each other’s backs in a fight, even if sometimes their dramatic bat-wielding entrance reveals nothing but Gi-ho’s failed attempt at a birthday surprise.

Together, the Trigger team will fight crime and unmask baddies through their version of “fact warfare.” But with all the risks and casualties involved, even So-ryong’s unflappable spirit can’t silence the question that remains: will their penchant for criminal nosiness come back to bite them?

Written by Kim Ki-ryang and directed by Yoo Seon-dong (The Uncanny Counter Season 2: Counter Punch), Unmasked will premiere on Disney+ on January 15.
