MBC has dropped two new character teasers for its upcoming romance Motel California featuring a his and her perspective. Based on the webnovel Home, Bitter Home by Shim Yoon-seo, the show follows the tale of a failed first love reuniting after twelve years and the ups and downs that accompany their rekindling.
Lee Se-young (What Comes After Love) plays interior designer Ji Kang-hee. Born and raised in a countryside motel, Kang-hee has a tumultuous relationship with her hometown, and thus, ran away. Her decision, though, meant leaving behind her first love Chun Yeon-soo, played by Na In-woo (Marry My Husband).
The “Kang-hee” teaser opens with Kang-hee looking forlorn beneath a tree while Yeon-soo slowly approaches her. He tells her that he will gain weight, wear glasses again, and eat ten more first snows. He asks if it would be all right to come see her again then, and a tear falls from Kang-hee’s eye as she listens to his confession.
Taking the same scene, the “Yeon-soo” teaser starts with Kang-hee absorbing Yeon-soo’s new look from his eyes to his hands. She reminds him that she ordered him not to lose weight or to take off his glasses in front of anyone else. She calls him an idiot bear (i.e., slow on the uptake) and marches away.
While it seems both sides still harbor feelings, their second chance at love may come with a few roadblocks. Also in the cast — and causing potential problems for our leads’ love life — are Kang-hee’s father and motel owner Choi Min-soo (Numbers), hotel heir Kim Tae-hyung (Bait), and veterinarian Choi Hee-jin (The Impossible Heir).
Directed by PDs Kim Hyung-min and Lee Jae-jin with scripts written by Lee Seo-yoon (365 – Repeat the Year), MBC’s Motel California is slated for twelve episodes and plans to premiere January 10 in the Friday-Saturday slot.
